Does Aljo have the "worst" best title reign ever?

And O'Malley is next who he will backpack to death.

The names are extremely impressive but the reality is very different

- Wins the title with an acting performance that puts Marlon Brando to shame against Yan (which he was losing)
- Defends against Yan via split decision (he probably won but no one likes a split decision)
- Defends against one arm Dillashaw (just lol)
- Defends against 36 year old washed Cejudo via split decision (a crackhead judge gave him the 5h round which he clearly lost, otherwise Cejudo is the #AndNew)

It's pretty crazy

I would say Khabib has him.

Beats a real estate agent who shouldn't have ever been in a title fight and despite winning easily couldn't finish him, then fights Conor (and loses a round on the cards) who has been shown to pretty terrible at LW piling up the losses. That leaves Dustin and Justin who while both good wins, neither has shown themselves to be long term champ material. It hurts me to say that especially for Justin who is one of my fav fighters, but if it isn't a standup fight his screwed.

Where as Sterling beats Yan twice, who many thought was almost unbeatable, Dillashaw who is an all time great and Triple C who definitely champion material. The guy is a legend of the sport.

Yes you can put your * there if you want, but the fact is on paper Sterling has been given the hardest run possible with the UFC clearly not trying to give him anything easy. Suga is the first fight where Sterling will be a big fav (or maybe he won't, but I can't believe he won't be a strong fav).

People hate certain champions.

On the opposite end of the spectrum most people hated DJ when he was dominating so good he made the whole division look mediocre to the point where “just close the whole fly weight division down because it sucks” was the norm. Then get revisionist history as if it wasn’t the case.

Aljo beat Yan. Yan is an overhyped midget Hector Lombard 2.0 who fights with no plan B. In the second fight Yan just coasted to a loss. TJ got thrashed. Cejudo underestimated him. Aljo will probably keep winning because people keep underestimating him and making mistakes.

The names are extremely impressive.

- Wins the title off the back of a heinously blatant illegal knee.
- Defends against Yan via split decision
- Defends against a cheating Dillashaw
- Defends against 36 year old Cejudo

Fixed.

I cannot believe that people are blaming Aljo for Yan being unable to do anything on the floor. One of the many stupid narratives related to Aljo.
They're likely just as mad that Aljo was unable to do anything to Yan "on the floor".

This defence really validated Aljo for me. Admittedly, I was rooting for Yan in their fights and that clouded my judgement imo.

It's hilarious to me that people are still butthurt about watching Aljo outgrapple Yan and trying to downplay it by just calling it "backpacking", as if that somehow soothes their anguish. Now we've gotten to the point that the longer, rangier man not getting into pocket brawls with the shorter guy is also a grievous misstep.

This fanbase is morbidly amusing yet depressing.

No he has the "best" worst title reign compared to other best worst ones.

That's the dumbest thing I've read on sherdog. Ever. The dumbest ever.

Absolutely insane that people still accuse of Sterling of acting till this day

MMA fans live in some delusional fantasy land

Sterling was hurt. Petr hit him in the temple with an illegal knee

And now he is being unfairly treated like a criminal
You've been on a roll today
Either you have an IV full of his ball sweat or you're the man himself
JK you clearly are gobbling those nuts <{clintugh}>

he's just unlucky.

We'll see if he can beat O'Malley, this time the opponent has a considerable size advantage. Wrestling i don't know mostly because Stevia did well against Yan.

-The DQ was a DQ regardless of how much you dislike him or his 'acting'. DQs must be treated as legit wins, or else this sport is fucked, and that was as legit a DQ as you can get.
-You practically admit you're being a bitch by getting your panties in a bunch about a split decision. Was it a robbery? No, of course it wasn't. He won and there was a bad judge. You can like it or not all you want.
-Only Dilly can be blamed for Dilly. Belal took all five rounds against one armed Burns, but Sterling immediately punished and finished one arm TJ
-You think Cejudo is washed why? You don't think he'd still beat most other BW's? And again you throw your hat behind bad judging and bitching about splits? Crying about the fifth going to Sterling for one judge but not the judges skipping Sterling's early rounds?

Pathetic breakdown

If you’re literally comparing him to the best UFC title holders than yes. But there have been some champs that weren’t very dominant: Robbie Lawler (2x defended belt) Benson Henderson (3x defended belt) & Woodley (3x defended belt) come to mind.

You can pull this shit with every single champ ever

Jon Jones beat Jake OBrien, who got dropped from the UFC right after
Vera, who couldn't hold onto a top 10 position
an old man in Matyushenko
And Bader another man who couldn't handle it in the UFC... in route to his fight against a Shogun who lost to Forrest Griffin

Does this mean that Jon Jones has a wishy washy resume?

Then he beat a MW vitor, a one dimensional Rashad, and was losing in strikes to Lyoto before he caught him in a guillotine

You can talk all your shit and twist the narrative, but Aljo has been on an impressive streak. Objectively.

I can't stand Aljo, but give credit where credits due

I've watched thousands of fights and nobody has ever acted the way Aljo did when he was "hurt".
Stop being blind and ignorant.

It's a controversial run because two wins are split decisions, and the first Yan fight was clearly a loss where he was gifted the title ,the only decisive win he got was vs a one armed TJ, the same kind of win that Belal is getting shit on for now. Since that first Yan fight he's just had a series of unfortunate outcomes where he never comes out looking like the undisputed winner who dominated the opposition, there's always some asterisk every time.

His best performance was vs Sandhagen before getting the belt, he needs some more dominant wins like that over healthy opposition, otherwise its really hard to sell him as a P4P fighter and BW GOAT regardless of who he beats, when there's always some extenuating circumstances involved.
