Why is he faking something? He was winning the fight. It was only the first round.

He was trying to get a point deduction after seeing Peña lose a point and seeing the referee get praised widely for doing the right thing (of course Peña landed two solid kicks as opposed to one glancing blow that caught mostly shoulder), and he got carried away. He glanced at the ref, who didn't even call a foul, them he escalated, begging for the point. The difference between a 10-9 and a 10-8 round in a three round fight is huge.

If the Peña/Harrison fight hadn't just happened he probably wouldn't have bothered faking, but scoring a point for the upkick was fresh in mind.

It should be noted mma fans at large tend to accuse fouled fighters of faking. Happens virtually every time a fight ends from a foul or even if it appear it could end from a foul. Not saying that’s what happened this time necessarily, but it is interesting that fouled fighters tend to receive far more backlash and criticism than the fouling fighter.
