Something I have always avoided is pigeons. Since childhood, I have always thought of pigeons as flying rats.

Pigeons are delicious.
Real dark meat for a bird and beefy taisting.

My favorite are owls. I've caught a few just to say I have.
I've also caught a few whiporwills.

On holidays in Italy I have been offered a pigeon. I'm not familiar with pigeons.

Is there a special type of pigeon that is edible? You can't eat the pigeons you see in the streets and squares in cities, can you?

You can eat any pigeon as far as I am aware.
Their pretty clean for a bird.
Their manure is acidic and bad for metal and masonry. Which is why most people think they are unclean.

So pigeons aren't disease carrying? I thought I had heard that they were one of the culprits of the plague. But I'll eat their cousins the dove. It just seems weird to even eat pigeon... Cultural Mores are strong.

Eurasian Doves a much bigger than Mourning Doves and they make a noise like a retard at a birthday party. Easy to tell them apart.

No problem. Yes, that is a Kea. They're bigger in person than you'd think. My favorite bird tied with the Tui and the New Zealand Fantail. Hard to pick one out of those.

Tuis will vocalize with you if you talk to them or whistle. And their vocalizations are very distinct and cool. Worth a listen. Fantails follow you through the bush flitting around within a meter making crazy turns eating the bugs you stir up. Keas are just dope all round. I mean they can kill a full grown sheep! Alpha parrot.

Birds are off putting. Beautiful dead eyed twitchy creeps.

Watcing ospreys hunt is one of my favorite parts of fishing. One landed on a fence post with a fish about 30 feet from me once, everytime it took a 'bite' of the fish it came up with a huge strip of meat hanging from his creepy beak

Tank you so much for the nice wallpapers! Wonderful birds! New Zealand is indeed a country I'm dying to visit.

The movie I saw that was about the Keas showed less nice sides of them. Among other things, they terrorized the skiers at a ski resort. And curious as they are, they chewed on literally everything! Cars that got rid of all removable plastic and rubber parts. Lol

Below is one of the most amazing moments I have seen.

It's about 2 capercaillies during breeding. They have a reputation for having a long breeding season where they fight all the time and many times it ends in the death of the loser. These 2 are so busy in their heat and then this happens.
