UFC welterweight prospect Ian Garry, who is undefeated in 12 professional outings, recently spent part of his camp in Sao Paulo, Brazil, at Chute Boxe Diego Lima.

“He sent me a message on Instagram saying he really liked the energy of my team and would love to visit Chute Boxe. A few weeks later we finally met in person during fight week, and I officially invited him to come,” Lima told Sherdog.com.

According to Lima, the Irishman was welcomed with open arms to Charles Oliveira’s team.

"The guy has a great energy. Actually, he looks more like a Brazilian. Always smiling, treating everybody well,” Lima said. “After training he had lunch with the team. Plus his wife speaks Portuguese, which was great.”

Garry, who will face Geoff Neal at UFC 292 on Aug. 19, impressed Lima with his skill level.

Geoff Neal is just like D-Rod except younger, faster, more powerful, hits harder, & has high-level wins

It makes me wonder how the conversation goes if the topic of Conor is brought up.

Sounds like Lima is just trying to sleep with Garry's wife.

Not a chance. Can you imagine him vs. stephen thompson? he'd get smoked

Hard to say. But it's hard to doubt, as well. He's passed every test he's had with flying colors and haters are too naive, at this point, to have a strong case against him.

I dunno about that. Geoff Neal KO'd Vicente Luque and checked Shavkat's chin several times.

Maybe Ian Garry really is all that, but we haven't seen him against this level of competition before

To be fair, I'm not sure why fans can't gather a greater context when assessing fights but....Geoff Neal has been struggling with health issues over the last few years, has been struggling to make weight, I believe had some legal troubles and then he went in vs Shavkat and while he made a good account of himself...Neal got rocked several times, absorbed like 150 strikes and was finished pretty badly. It isn't like a guy already in his 30s is going to be improving after each major setback...typically, it's the opposite. This is on paper a close fight and a big test for Garry, but they definitely picked the right time to fight Neal.

This is the make or break fight for Garry. If he can't beat Geoff then he can't beat anyone else in the division. Geoff is one of the few ranked guys that are willing to entertain him on the feet. I think there is WB and I can't quite recall if Vincente is still ranked or not.

Maybe it's just because I had such high expectations of Shavkat, but I thought Neal made him look very, very human. If Neal's in a bad way in his career that's evem more impressive for him or disappointing for Shavkat.

Almost akin to Chimaev's test against Burns, obviously without a finish and not quite as close.

Diego Lima is a moron.
