Yeah that's the idea, but I dont see how it makes $$ in practice.Assuming they still think the fight is even possible, the UFC is generating incrementally more hits and buzz by teasing Jones fighting again than promoting no name #1 vs. no name #2 for the HW strap.
And Jones is certainly getting more followers, hits and sponsorships by keeping his name out there. McG showed how that works. For all we know, his russian reality show contract requires him to be the "reigning UFC HW champ" when the show airs, rather than the "retired" or "recently KTFOed" UFC champ.
This fight business is also the show business. You need stars to perform. The show must go on and it has, with lousy/"watered down" cards, so talking about it generates.....what revenue?
Conor SHOULD come back cuz hes got legal issues constantly, bad actor, dropped from brands, and most importantly, doesnt fight. Talking about him fighting is nothing. Jones is almost exactly the same and oddly, less profitable.
