Did luck play a good role in Fedor's legacy?

What you described was actually the complete opposite of luck. He was more well rounded than all of his opponents.

There’s something to be said for resiliency and durability.

Jones was almost armbarred by Vitor, GSP got dropped by Condit, Anderson was losing to Chael, DJ had some close calls against Benavidez, Dodson, Elliott, etc.

Luck plays a pretty significant role in life period though.

Shit troll job.

You can't go undefeated for ten years without at least some luck. Of course, his skill has a big part, obviously, but I'd say a little luck was involved

Does Steph Curry just get lucky? Tom Brady? Messi?

It’s more that once he was battered and worn he started to slow down, and putting him in there with guys who are juiced to the gills and 80 pounds heavier was a bad combination.

Bigfoot actually was not on TRT for the Fedor fight so you are wrong there.

And Pride had juiced up "monsters" but they just were not very skilled.

Answer to question, absolutely!

Fedor was a big bloated middle weight that didn't diet or cut weight. Watch all of his PRIDE fights. He has a small frame. Take that Fedor and put him in today's game and he's a 185 pounder. With that being said, once you watch his old fights, there's no denying that not only is he the hw GOAT, he's the open weight GOAT.

If you think Fedor in Strikeforce was still in his prime, you're mistaken. He was already out of his prime in AFFLICTION. Just look at his body and his reflexes. He literally aged 10 years in the matter of a couple years.

A body can only train and compete so long before it falls off. It's different for everybody...

Agreed, though.

Except for Fedor being a bloated up MW. Dude's core strength was off the charts. He's not a bloated up MW any more than Cormier is, or Igor for that matter.

You must think DC is a WW

You don't think a 20 something year old Fedor in 2018, training in the states, dieting and cutting could make 185? We saw the likes of Wandy fighting in his 220's in the open weight Grand Prix.

I'm going to re-write the OP:

"Did Fedor get lucky by being better than all of his opponents"

He fought in pride. They were all on the juice.

Plus I don’t think Henderson had 80 lbs on him. Lol

Facts are facts: Fedor fought in an organization where A) He didn't have to fight the toughest challenge every time out and B) steroids and PEDs were encouraged and not tested for.

Here are some very close calls where Fedor got very lucky that the other fighter wasn't well rounded enough in MMA that saved him
1. If Fujita was well rounded, he would've killed Fedor and finished right away!

2. If Randelman had any ground skills the results may had been different

3.Coleman had Fedor's back but no sub skills
But
Here is what happens when well rounded fighters fought Fedor

As soon as Fedor lost, he was out of his prime or just got lucky fighting guys who are either grapplers or strikers mostly? Be the judge honestly!
maxresdefault (1).jpg I'm pretty sure this had something to do with it back in the Pride days.

Bigfoot is a lifetime steroid user. If you think steroids are a drug that wash out of your system the moment you stop injecting then you're dumb.

That's actually what makes his streak so amazing. There are so many variables in MMA in general, but particularly at hw where one punch can put someone out. There will always be chance elements involved. The fact that he went undefeated for that amount of time in spite of the higher risk is a huge accomplishment.
