Was it a lowblow?

technically it's below the belt line, but there's no way he got hit in the nuts unless he's tying his nuts up to the waistband of his trunks. i don't know how this isn't more of a problem in boxing because nearly EVERY boxer has extremely high trunks just so they can game the "belt line rule". Usyk was down for 4 minutes by a punch to his LOWER ABDOMEN. that's the reality of it. whether you want to say it's illegal or not, the fact is he did not get hit in his genitals. to be down for 4 minutes means he was legitimately hurt by the body shot.
He didnt have to get hit in the balls for it to be illegal, as long as he’s hit below where the ref points at during the instructions its illegal and I dont recall the referee pointing it out to Dubois

Definitely sus. The ref saving him and giving time seemed corrupt af. It was also pouring rain in the ring

Mora, one of the best commentators in boxing in my opinion, but it's just nonsense what he's talking here.

Take a look at this:

... I reckon that "so many hypotheticals attached to that situation, it doesn't carry as much weight in that sense as so many different things could have happened afterwards" is a fitting phrase.

Initial viewing I had the same reaction as the rest of you simps. And then I looked a bit more carefully and it clearly hit his junk on the way through.

You need to shut off your instinctive outrage drama brains and try to make an objective assessment.

considering his belly button is completely obscured by the beltline of his shorts, i’d love to know how you made that estimation. also, is there a rule against hitting the lower abdomen?

i mistook a dimple in his abdomen for his belly button at first glance of the photos provided. It probably wasn’t a shot to the balls after all.

Remember Kovalev vs Ward 2 finish that was low blow. This wasnt Usyk was in a knockdown and the ref let it slide

I do think it was below the belt, what do you guys think?

So here's the facts:

No, it's wasn't a low blow it was legal.

- Usyk has been down from body shots before, he doesn't like them

- Usyk complains about 'low blows' most fights when they hit the body. It's one of his signature tactics

- He complained to the ref several times about body shots in this fight.

- A low blow is 'below the belt line'. Usyk wears his belt high, way above the navel which Dubois team had asked the ref about before the fight

- Even though Usyk wears his belt high, the punch was still on the belt line not below it.

- Usyk was dropped like a sack of potato's by a body shot and wasnt getting up.

- If anyone claims that the punch wasn't to the body, they must think Usyk has a strange anatomical build.

- Usky wins award for acting today, was able to dupe the ref

-Pro Usyk crowd went silent when the replay of the knockdown was shown after the fight.

Honestly it looks debatable but the more I watch the more I think it was kinda low. It’s a difficult one but it wasn't a clear cut low blow. If it was ruled a body shot and usyk was counted out then I think we would see a lot more backlash. Imagine this being a KO and the controversy of usyk losing this way.
This is what I think too. The ref isn't gonna call something so marginal a KD and risk the backlash if Usyk doesn't get back up in time for whatever reason.

Dubois' lack of a reputation didn't help him here either. If they were closer going in the refs perceptions would have been different. Edit: maybe not different enough to call it a KD.

I think it would take balls of steel, or corruption, to call that a KD on the night. The ref doesn't get all the replays and angles like we do.

It’s literally below the belt. Low blow. About 6 inches down from the belly button.
It’s not 6 inches below the navel, it’s not even 1 inch below the navel: it’s exactly at navel-level.

Usyk’s belt is so high it even goes above his elbow when he covers up. If hitting such belt is considered low then it’s almost impossible to land a body shot.

If the ref allows shots to the beltline they'll explicitly point it out before the fight even starts. They'll touch that part of the belt and signal that it's fair game to the other fighter. Notice the ref didn't do that here.

Barry Jones also mentioned this. He said that he actually heard the shot hit Usyk's groin protector/cup.

I changed my mind more than once last night but now i think its low. its clearly below the navel. And even if you define the beltline as between navel and hips, its still low. Cause half of the punch lands below that area. Dont know why usyk was so hurt but i would assume his protector got sqeezed into his balls. good for him, he already has kids.

Jeepers Creepers.
1) It's a little low
2) Usyk seems like the most honest man in the sport.

I know "2" isn't supposed to matter, but it does. When a fighter acts like he was fouled, imho, for safety and honesty , you give him the benefit of the doubt. Depending on how you saw it, you can decide how much to penalize the other fighter, if at all. But you give the guy the benefit of the doubt that he feels he was fouled. Until you decide he no longer deserves it. Usyk still deserves it, I figure.

Techically an illegal shot, however the narative will change and no one thinks anymore that he isbworthy of getting in the bring with fury.

lol at this being facts, and none of the horseshit has anything to do with whether or not it was low.

oh, he doesn't like body shots? then clearly it was a legal punch!

get the fuck outta here.
