It’s off topic to ask what individual sports have a union with a cba in a discussion about starting a union in an individual sport?
And plenty of educated men in combat sports.
ur a dumbassJake "65K" Paul is getting desperate. Red Goof is walkinb away with this.
And you can call it getting ripped off but the system works pretty well for the players on an absolute basis. The tournaments compete against other tournaments. Wimbledon isn’t the same as the ATP.There are only 3 other individual sports that are comparable to MMA in terms of revenue. Tennis, Boxing and Golf. I don't know anything about Golf
Boxing has the Ali act, and there's no single dominant operating entity like the UFC.
Tennis is also mainly tournament based, and each of the Grand Slams operate on their own. There has been a lot of grumblings in tennis in recent years very similar to the UFC about athletes pay and forming a player's association to bargain for better pay. Professional tennis has a lot of same issues, training is very expensive, pay is only good at the top. Grand Slams hide their revenue figures like the UFC, and they are rumored to only pay out 10-18% of their revenue to the Prize Pool. Recently due to public outcry, tournaments have made efforts to increase the prize pool, but the real figures are still hidden like the UFC. It's an ongoing situation, and many athletes are not satisfied. And just like the UFC only if all players can band together and bargain, they will continue to be ripped off by ATP and the Slams.
Healthcare's already free in every first world civilized country.
I'm talking about combat sports and not team sports. Team sports are very different and ran differently. They have drafts and all that, completely different dynamic compared to combat sports. The NBA has health care for former players. I think you have to have played 3 years. The NFL and NBA have pensions. But the difference is, they are employees...fighters are not.
This is trueI agree with Jake Paul's initiative, but let's be real, he doesn't really care. He's just doing it for the publicity of it, specially since the numbers of his last fight with Woodley weren't that great.
B b but that's socialism! That's completely different than our social security system that redistribute wealth!Healthcare's already free in every first world civilized country.
Yeah it's a bit misleading what Jake says. They have health insurance for injuries suffered in fights and in training.
Get rid of minimum pay. Drastically increase the amount and number of bonuses to really incentivize fighters to put on exciting fights. The bonus pool should be at least $1 million per event.
Give long-term healthcare and pension benefits to fighters that reach a certain number of fights in the UFC. Long-term healthcare could start at 6 fights and pension benefits could start at 12 fights. Long-term healthcare is forfeited if fighters compete in a different organization or combat sport after their time in the UFC.
I would love for the fighters to be employees and have the right to unionize, but it’s pretty clear cut that they are not employees. There are some ways that the UFC tries to treat them like employees, but they’re not. It’s not a technicality.

Very few contractors also sustain injuries to the extent fighters do.
Danger isn't just death. Quality of life and brain trauma matters. Hence me saying being a professional prize fighter is much more impactful to health than most other contracting gigs. Btw, have you ever heard of an oil rig worker being forced to work another year because their employer said they had to? I haven't.I don’t think you’ve thought this through. Contractors do some of the most dangerous work on earth, in some of the most dangerous places, under some of the most dangerous conditions.
Oil rig workers, for example, average more deaths in a year than the UFC ever had in its history. Which is zero, by the way. Even if you include every MMA organization, the claim still stands.
