News Deadline: Jake Paul reduces amount asked for fighter pay in last ditch offer to get Dana to accept

What y’all think Dana should do more:

  • Give Fighters Healthcare

  • Increase minimum pay

It's bizarre to see people treating the issue as if it was simple or cut and dry. Those examples you posted are two hell of study cases. Mostly of what not to do. And don't get me wrong I'm all for the Big Jewish Money backing Endevour footing all the bills, but good luck with that.

¿All-included quality health care for life in the US? Damm, that has to be prohibitively expensive to provision. Thank God the NBA generates $8.76 billion in revenue per year.
Wtf is big Jewish money?

Get rid of minimum pay. Drastically increase the amount and number of bonuses to really incentivize fighters to put on exciting fights. The bonus pool should be at least $1 million per event.

Give long-term healthcare and pension benefits to fighters that reach a certain number of fights in the UFC. Long-term healthcare could start at 6 fights and pension benefits could start at 12 fights. Long-term healthcare is forfeited if fighters compete in a different organization or combat sport after their time in the UFC.

I just looked it up UFC hasn't changed the bonus structure since 2013 the standard is 4 fighters get 50k an event.

Both those numbers should be up after 9 years.

The ufc and bellator have the right to say no. They often don’t say no.
And that magically means that such an peculiar contractual clause isn't worth noticing? The one that tends to impact the most lucrative fighters.
not sure what you mean. Bellator and the boxing contract for Ennis have the same language. I think the boxing language was even more restrictive if I recall.
We've been over it. The champion's clause in Ennis' contract is different in that he has the right to approve his opponents. UFC and Bellator contracts do not have that for fighters.
The nfl has the franchise tag. Affects a small % of the league. And I’ve never seen it challenged legally. Are you suggesting its illegal?
The NFL has a monopoly exemption and a collective bargaining agreement if my memory serves. Neither which exists in the UFC or mma. Not to mention, again if my memory of hand egg is right, the franchise tag includes a salary raise.
If promoters are rich AF and the warriors are getting dimes on the dollar, that is a huge problem.
Blows my mind that fighters think UFC fighters getting a smaller portion of event revenue than Don King headliners, after he stole from them no less, is on the up and up.

This was a desperate attempt to shore up or cover up those weak PPV numbers that Jake pulled. People are now bored with his circus and have had enough of him pretending to be a boxer while fighting non-boxers much smaller than himself. Time to find a new schtick Jake.

On America the only people i can think of that get healthcare for life are government employees, that should give you an idea of how expensive it is.
a lot of people get health insurance as part of their retirement which can start as early as 48 if they started working at 18.

Solve X

Increase minimum pay. Then if you been around for X years with the organization then health care kicks in.

I'm starting to like this guy and I haven't seen any of his fights

Dana won't care though

And to make matters worse, MMA fighters are at a much greater risk for CTE than boxers even! 50/50 is more than enough to have cheddar to invest in the company (especially in this era of the internet & streaming) and for Dana to have 500K a night to blow on black jack every night - I know he won't have millions to blow every night, but a small price to pay for the fighters that turned him from a bell hop boxercise instructor into a near billionaire! Eventually history is going to look back on this as like indentured servitude, a complete embarrassment to the UFC and especially the fans that consent manufactured and gave cover to Dana & Co.

They have health insurance for injuries suffered in fights and in training.

Not really. It's half assed healthcare.
Just ask Raging Al.
He ended up paying for his own knee surgery because UFC wanted him to get a lesser surgery than he needed.

That still is how insurances work sometimes. Not fair I know, but it's not just the UFC.

Oh I know what you mean, but they can't fuckin pay for top of the line care?

Just ridiculous treating the guys that carry your ass like that sir.

Yeah, especially because they pay their fighters so little already, they should be able to pay for the best care and I do think they do pay for the best care, just not for every fighter.

That would be like me and you working at masonry company, and we're doing the same work, but I get better healthcare because I'm liked more.

I wouldn't feel right taking that care if you weren't getting the same.

Call me crazy.

Kinda, but also not really. Someone like McGregor was most likely a key factor in the business selling for about 4 billion. Al isn't anywhere near as valuable to the company as that. Two workers in a masonry will never differ that much in value to the masonry. Not that I think Al didn't deserve the best care. I fucking love that dude and I do think he was not treated fairly overall, but I also get the UFC a little bit because I think Al could have been a bit of a pain in the ass to deal with, maybe.

See a guy can be a massive value to a masonry company though.
I could know how to lay brick better, block, stone, thus making the company more money...you would still deserve the same care man.

He saved a huge card when he fought Khabib...pain in the ass or not that's worthy of anyone's respect.

It's also worthy of top care.
Nobody in the NBA or NFL gets different care, pain in the ass or not, punter or middle linebacker.

Yeah, I don't think it's fair either. But a better mason isn't going to make record breaking sales in the masonry business by just being a better mason. He most likely will have to be more than just a mason and also have some managing tasks or something that elevates him way above the normal mason. Fight business is a little different though.

Yeah, I fully agree. Al wasn't treated fairly. Not by the fans either, IMO. I think he was really underrated and more skilled than a lot of people gave him credit for. And later in his career he underperformed because he was not fully committed to the game. Also, Sean Shelby is a little weasel that power trips and gets off on fucking fighters over. I think he retired, right? So should be safe to bash him a little.

I used to do masonry man. It's a very hard job.

Fighting business IS different but that should not subtract from the care is all.

Bud, I know it is. Never said it wasn't. I'm not saying anything negative about it. It's just a different type of business than the fight business.

I never said it should, but it's the sad reality of the UFC. Life isn't fair, even though it should be.

I'm sorry man, I'm half trolling you here with the masonry example lol.

I just think if they're not going to pay better they should at least have the best care.
