he said “ dc would be his greatest chance at losing” or Something along those lines. And that’s against a guy he destroyed twice.

he’s just showing some respect to dc. And at the time he was content at lhw. Then commited to moving up. He changed his mind for whatever reason. Probably no more intriguing matchups at the time. I’m not going to be upset because someone changes there mind and chooses to go to hw no less.
I’m sure he felt foolish defending the lhw title the last time against volkan as nobody saw him as a champ. I think volkan said he if he beat dc he wouldn’t consider him the champ until he fought jones.
as for dc immediately going up. Of course he just lost twice to the lhw kingpin. The road was too long to get another shot at jones. Hw instant title.
DC is one of the best ever. Jones is just better.

no fighters question jones fighting ability. Nganou didn’t either. He acknowledged jones is the best and the fight would be massive and thought it was absurd the narrative is jones is afraid of him and agreed they should both get paid more. And showed support in jones wanting more money.

Now Francis has that narrative on him. And he’s wanting much more money with 0 title defense opposed to jones dozen.

but fans hold some weird opinions on jones as a fighter.
 
Basically Jones saw that Stipe didnt look very good even when he beat DC the third time, thought it would be a good way of avoiding a rematch with Reyes but then Francis won the belt and he suddenly got cold feet and has been trapped in limbo ever since.

Quite likely Jones never fights again I would say, I'm not sure he's even popular enough for Dana anymore to be hot shotted the title should Ngannou/Gane be upset by someone more beatable.

Having lost twice to Jones does not preclude DC to comment on Jones chances as HW.
