Is he lying?

I can't stand how the UFC and Dana try and do this to fighters...

If Wonderboy declined, that's on him (good or bad) but I don't like how Dana tries to air it out to the media like that and pressure fighters behind the scenes to accept.

Dana is a shitty promoter for his fighters unless they do his bidding. Can't wait for his (eventual) downfall.

I think there’s a chance that Dana considers any qualifications for a fight to be “turning it down”. Like if Thompson said something like “I’m not available to fight in November” or “I don’t want to fight in Denver” or something and Dana was planning on fighting Garry in that month or location then Dana would say that he turned it down.
That is literally turning it down.

Did WB provide an explanation for turning it down?

Probably because he is trying to have a title run and facing the top young prospect in the division without the ranking behind it does nothing to put him closer to his goal
It's typically seen as a sleezy practice to arrange an old head and new prospect in that manner

I believe Dana. If i was WB i would turn that disrespectful Conor wannabe down too.

Probably some truth to it. Wonderboy hasn't been shy about how picky with opponents he's become. He literally begged for no more fights against grapplers.

He also likes to focus on dates, so I could easily see him turning down a short notice fight, add in some resentment to the UFC over them not paying his show money and I think you have your answer.

Why do the UFC any favours when he isn't happy with them right now?
I don't blame the guy. He's like 40 and wants to have some exciting fights against strikers.

Tbh it's actually a good idea from the UFC's side too. Throw Wonderboy in there with a striker and let them put on an performance of the night level fight.

Wonderboy simps arent gonna like that.

Never seen a fighter get so many passes for ducking

Dana white likely still hasn’t paid WB for the last fight either

Classic smear campaign by Dana. WB is a vet. They should have paid him his show for the pereira fight and given him another fight with time for a real training camp. Who the fuck would want to face Garry, a lower ranked fighter, on short notice? It’s lose/lose especially without a full camp. Expect Dana to keep the campaign up to send a message.

"I didn't pay him what I owed him, but I said we'd pay him this time".

As for wonderboys pay, my guess is he’s on a flat fee contract, no show/win split, so Dana feels he doesn’t get his pay even though he showed up and weighed in.

Wonderboy turned down this fight ... prior ... when his last fight fell through.

Dana pulled a sneaky sneaky there.

<[analyzed}>

If wonderboy declines a fight with a pure striker and also be able to have a full camp to train, then he probably shouldn’t be fighting in the ufc or worst case scenario stay in ufc and fight guys ranked between 20 and 40 and shot at a future title fight. He still wants a title shot and is ranked in top 10. That should all go completely out the door if offered a fight with Gary and he doesn’t accept the fight. He is already declining rights with high level grapplers and so if offered a fight with a striker who everyone knows will be a stand up fight and he declines, sorry dude your done.

That is literally turning it down.
Not really. If Dana didn’t offer him the fight and Thompson just said those things in the general context of finding him an opponent then it’s pretty misleading to say that he turned it down since it wasn’t actually offered, even though he may well have turned it down had it been offered.

Both of those situations:

turn down-
  1. reject something offered or proposed.

Wonderboy has been pretty explicit about wanting to fight strikers. I can't see him turning down a striker with a ton of momentum behind him.

I think he doesn't to fight young hungry killers. He wants chill older man fights. He's at the end of his career.

Dana has said so many contradictory things, and reeatedy behaved so unprofessionally, that it's hard to take anything he says at face value.

Ya when wonderboy wouldn’t fight michel because dude didn’t make weight, Ian Garry offered to step in because he was the only guy with a similar ranking that could make weight in time and was willing to get on a plane. Wonderboy didn’t prepare for Ian Garry. Ian Garry has been thinking about and preparing for wonderboy because that’s just where they are in their careers.

So what? Moving on…. Next?
