Cyril Gane vs. Jon Jones?

Jones is crap against guys who are tall. Gane would work his legs and defend all of the takedowns.

He doesnt have to. Not like gane throws a bunch of power shots. Because hes a point fighter. Francis probably run through him. Gane will be on his back foot the entire fight till going to sleep. Surely hes not going to be walking francis down... he wins a decision or wakes up in a week. 5 rounds for francis to land a flush shot. Is more then enough time.

The second Ngannou/Stipe fight I think makes this seem like a harder job as well, before that the idea you just had to last a round and Francis would gas was pretty common. Whilst that match didnt go much longer I think it showed that Ngannou could conserve his cardio and remain dangerous.

Honestly I think Gane seems like a terrible matchup for Jones personally, Jon depends on his reach and high output to win decisions standing recently and he'd arguebly have no advantage on either against Gane. That could well be a near unwinnable fight for him were as with Francis I think there is always the feeling he's a little flakey.

Jones would resort to taking gane down probably.
I'm curious how that would go. Jon has not really tried to wrestle much since gus 2. Reyes did a pretty good job keeping it standing and depending on how heavy jon comes in at I'd have to assume gane will be the much stronger man.

I'm not saying that Jones would be unjustified in doing so - I'm just making a statement of fact that that would be the clearest and probably only advantage he has over gane in terms of skills.
I'm pretty sure he would have a decent speed advantage even though gane is quick for his size. Also he has like a 4 inch reach advantage

Jones can only win this via wrestling (if he can get Gane down, that is)

If he doesn't get Gane down, he's in for the worst beatdown of his life (unless he faces Ngannou afterwards).
Ye ye i know "GaNe Is A pOiNt FiGhTeR" but only against other big ass and dangerous heavyweight strikers. Jones won't have the power or speed to threaten Gane, hence the latter would run through the former if it stays on the feet.

Also that Jones' wrestling hasn't looked good in ages, and this is against LHW's, smaller men.

So pretty much only way for Jones to win is via his great fight IQ, his experience to win close rounds. Or on some stupid judges, again.

Thing is, I don't believe these rounds would be close, if the judges value damage of shots and not baby low kicks, which is in the current ruling.

Gane has much better hands than Jones and I think he's the better kicker as well. Pro kickboxer. One weakness last night was not checking low kicks, but he seemed fine taking them, so can focus on defending Volkov's long punches.

I have no idea what's going on with Jon. This shit is crazy. I think his ideal dream would be BB beating Ngannou ( not happening) so he can get easy ride to title .

Dana wont like it but ultimately hed cave....but I dont see the beast making it to the 3rd.

That fight will never happen anytime soon unless it's for a belt, would be stupid to have one of these guys take their first loss (first 'real' loss for Jones) against each other in a match with mediocre stakes, you can't have Jones vs Gane headline a PPV without a belt lol and Jones isn't fighting on a damn fight night or co-main.

I would like to see this fight set up immediately. I think it would be a perfect first hw fight for Jon and a huge popularity boost for gane, who I could see someday being the champ for a long time once ngannou/jones are gone.

I think jones wins a decision pretty handily, they actually have pretty similar mindsets and styles as far as being very controlled. If im the matchmaker I make this fight asap with the the winner guaranteed the next ts.

It's an absolute win win. If jon wins then you got him warmed up to fight ngannou, Cyril doesn't lose anything getting beat by jon, and comes out as a bigger name still right on the cusp of a ts. If gane wins jon has the built in excuse he never should have fought at hw and hes still the best 205er in the world, and gane v ngannou gets way more hype behind it.

Who do you think wins and how?
I can almost guarantee you that Jon Jones (if offered that fight) would immediately decline.

He is scared of losing his "perfect" fight record, and he has already declined Ngannou and Miocic so I really cannot see him accepting a fight with a top contender like Gane. Plus he keeps saying "oh...I think i'll sit out for a while...no rush...."

Jones is not fighting anytime soon. He's just not. You can speculate on the reasons, but he COULD call up the UFC matchmakers tomorrow and say " fix me up a HW fight, send me 3 or 4 names and I'll pick one and we get it done".

But nope he ain't gonna do that. Dude at this point is semi-retired.

Jon has fought in non stop title fights since 2011 and hasn't lost (officially) it would be stupid & bad business for him to take any fight at this point that isn't for a belt

Jones is better. Gane is good, but Jones hurts his opponents more often and good luck closing that distance.

Jones I believe is a once in a lifetime fighter. Everyone else is below him, when all is said and done.

You would make a terrible promoter, TS. Would an unnecessary risk for one of their only name fighters. Pointless
The UFC hates Diva Jon. They would love for him to lose to an up and comer, make a bunch of money in the process and weaken his bargaining power.

Jones should get the title shot if he comes back within any kind of reasonable time frame

I think thats pretty much it, Jon ran from Reyes at LHW and the guys who have beaten him look potentialy even worse matches, he hoped to catch a declining Stipe, now probably hopes Lewis upsets Francis and he can get a title shot against him.

That's fair but they'd probably prefer to him to get beat by the current / new champion in a title fight, they don't want just anybody to beat Jon if they can't capitalize on that momentum.

This is a weird sitch for me cause I've always called Jones the closest thing we have to " thee goat" ( we dont have one - yet).
I , now, may have to rethink all of this. Between the chemical infractions and how he looked down the stretch at 205-
IDK.
