bunch of statistics

On one hand, this is a good post and if we are to resort or implement pseudo-math in ranking of fighters from different eras, then I suppose this is the way to go; being supposedly as objective as possible.

On the other hand, I believe that ranking fighters between different times should be done based on their primes rather than statistical match-ups. While I do respect rankings which are done by experts, it's still very subjective, and becomes even more subjective when you compare rankings of fighters from different eras by simply looking at who has more/less wins/defeat.

Truth of the matter is, the level of performance CC was showing in Pride was vastly superior to his UFC bouts. I'm not taking anything away from the fighters who beat him; I'm just remembering how he looked in his Pride fights and compare them to the UFC ones.

Outside top 5 to 10.......I have Fedor, Nog, Barnett, and Mir as top 4. I will take Mir ahead of Cro Cop. And you gotta fit JDS, Werdum, and Cain in there somewhere. Where does Cro Cop fit??? And where do you squeeze Rand in there???

He was never champion, jackhead.
That's just one belt they created. Any stinky little MMA org can make up a belt.
Being champion means that you're the best fighter in your weight class.

Gp belt was more prestigious in pride nub.

It's safe to say he is not in the HW top ten anymore and sliding down pretty fast.

Why? If Mir isn't than neither is Mirko.

Mir has more big wins than Mirko.
Mir has less bad losses than Mirko.
Mir is better against common opponents than Mirko.
Mir beat Mirko heads up.

There is no objective standard to rank CC over Mir. Only subjective pride was better romanticisms.

lol Mir has beat two top 10 ranked guys Tim and a shot Nog.

the biggest thing however is when Mirko lost his bigs fights in his prime he typically looked very competitive (nog, fedor, hunt). Mir however, every time he loses throughout his career (which is a lot) he looks like he doesnt even belong there. That is a huge sticking point for Mir's career that really gives fuel to the people that see him as more of an average fighter that lucked out a couple times.

MY HW GOAT list:

1. Fedor
2. Big Nog
3. Igor, Coleman
5. Crocop
6. Couture
7. Cain
8. Sylvia
9. Barnett
10. JDS, AA

My list is based on achievments in and outside of MMA, displayed skill, winning streaks, dominance in fights and ability to using all aspects in MMA together.

Fedor, Velasquez, Dos Santos, Werdum, Nogueira

+ St. Pierre, Silva, Penn, Jones, Couture, Henderson, Sakuraba, Gracie, Liddell, Aldo, Machida, Hughes, Rampage, Pettis, Rutten, Shogun, Wanderlei, Pulver, Mir, Steven Segal.

Match up all of those guys against each other once and I bet ya Segal loses 24 times.

wut

GTFO... you cant be serious.

Right now we know Fedor is 1 and Nog is 2. The rest would be a mess if you tried to rank them. You could rank CC anywhere from 3 or right behind guys like Cain, JDS, Werdum, and Barnett.

Rankings are based on opinions. But that doesn't mean Rankings can't be objective.

Fighters' records and the Rankings of the opponents they faced offer perspective in these types of topics. If YOU choose to view them as the definitive measure, that's up to you.

Dummy, JDS is definitely in there. I think in 20 years only Fedor and Cain will be left though.

20 years???

They'll be many many fighters more capable than Fedor and Cain within 20 years. I'm a big fan of them both but as long as the competition is the same or more, the sport hasn't seen it's best. Not by a long shot.

Rankings are based on opinions. But that doesn't mean Rankings can't be objective.

Unless there's going to be a unified, empirical and scientifically valid mathematical derivation of computing fighters' wins and losses (a la ELO), there simply can't be real objectivity. I'm talking about "real-time", let alone when dealing with pseudo-rankings of fighters from different eras.
