CroCop all-time status

dos santos won and defended a championship

cro cop was never #1 at any point

The only reason he wasn't #1 is due to having Fedor and Nog competing at their prime alongside him. Sort of like Malone/Stockton not having a ring.

He did climb past Nog in the rankings after the OWGP, though, and Nog was as solid at number 2 as Fedor was at number 1.

Definitely top 10 HW all time.

have cro cop at 3 but i wouldn't argue if someone had him at 2. he did destroy nog the whole fight, until he got caught. i don't think he would have gotten caught again if they fought.

if cro cop won a rematch with nog (either now or 5 years ago) would everyone agree he would be ahead of nog?

Where do you rank CroCop's career? I have him just creasing the top 25 ever p4p and in the top 5 HW all-time. When at his peak in PRIDE he was one of the most feared strikers in the sport, period. May CroCop's legacy live on.[/QUOTE

Unranked. His career is completely unimpressive when you look at who he beat.

Igor Vovchanchyn had 66 MMA fights and was KO'd only once.

It took Mirko just over a minute to accomplish that feat. In his absolute prime (03-05) Mirko was as good a fighter as I've seen.

Thats just silly, he lost 3 times in that span. He lost to Randleman who was a shell of his former self and then lost to Nog like 3 seconds after hitting the ground. How is that as good as the best fighter you've ever seen? You must not have seen Fedor, or Anderson, or GSP, or about 15-20 other guys.

lol at unimpressive wins

If beating Barnett, Vovchanchyn, Herring, Coleman, Wanderlei and Sakuraba doesn't account for anything you probably haven't been watching MMA for very long. I think that's a pretty safe assumption to make.

Good day to troll, huh?

Again, please stop. This sort of reasoning is very poor. Silva was also finished twice by much lesser opponents roughly at the same period and from what I can tell you have him as GOAT.

Just stop.

Anderson has been very good his entire career but I wouldn't call 2004 Anderson as good as any fighter I've ever seen. He has the best overall resume I've seen and 2005-2012 Anderson is the best fighter I've ever seen for sure.

Sakuraba and wand are not heavy weights

Igotta admit this is one of the few threads that posts changed my opinion. Looking at this from a new view my opinion on CCs all time status went up.

#5 HW GOAT. All around GOAT ranking? Lord knows. Not very high up. Maybe around 30. Even that is generous.

he destroyed nog until it hit the ground. destroyed him. landed 8 liverkicks. what did nog land on him? nogs boxing is considered really good. trained for the brazilian team for the olympics or something like that...

he didn't land anything on cro cop. he was a human punching bag. his takedowns we garbage. if he didn't bumrush cro cop in the second as soon as the bell rang, chances are he wouldn't have gotten the takedown, or the win.

fedors opponents were the level as cro cops in pride. lots of tough fights mixed win with some cans to be crushed.

also, cro cop lost twice from 2003-2005. once to randleman who got lucky (and apparently was "shot" according to you) and once to fedor. so fuck off with that

not to mention he went on to make barnett look bad twice, something no one has ever done. anyone who wants to discredit cro cop needs to remember that. barnett has lost 6 times in almost 17 years. 3 times to cro cop.

well JDS has cain, who is better than nog at least. he pulled it off at least once

doing it once, even if its "flukey" is infinitely better than never getting past 3rd

Mirko is the man!! 100+ fights between MMA, K-1 and amateur boxing.

Lots of people destroy Nog until they lose, thats the thing about Nog. Sylvia destroyed him even worse until he got sub'd. Sapp destroyed him until he got sub'd.

So although I give each of those guys props for how they performed against Nog I don't think we can call CC as good as anyone ever because he did well against Nog.

The way I look at is this way. He beat four top tier, elite opponents: Nog, CC, Arlovski, Sylvia. He beat 4 very good opponents: Schilt, Herring, Hunt, and Babalu. Then he beat several decent names but lackluster fighters: Older Coleman, completely over the hill Randleman, Rizzo, and Monson and one hit wonders like Brett Rogers and Fujita.

These guys are all above average fighters and his resume is one of the best ever but when compared to Silva or GSPs it just doesn't hold up.

Actually he lost 4 times

And thats why CC is probably a top 5 HW right now but it doesn't make him as good as any fighter we ever seen. C'mon man you know this.

top 10 HW, top 5 is questionable.

Fedor
Big Nog
Cain
JDS
Werdum

Alll have superior resumes to Mirko. Depending on how Barnett's next few fights go It would be fair to say his career>> Mirko's.

Do you really not see how that makes sense?

The fighters from the same era declining at relatively the same time?

Really?

Hendo, Werdum, Barnett, Anderson, Nog, all still looking good. When Fedor fights 3 legit opponents in a row and gets squashed he is past his prime at 33. When Shogun goes win for loss in the UFC he is past his prime at 30, Gomi looks pedestrian and he is past his prime. Cro-Cop and Fedor along with getting older never evolved as fighters. What they did worked for a while and people caught on.
