He cannot beat any of the top guys. He lost to Aljo, he lost to Yan, he lost to Umar

You can argue he win the TJ fight but TJ was coming off a 2 year layoff, dealing with arm injuries, tore his knee in the first round and cory still made it close enough for the judges to give TJ the win

The only guys he beats are guys who have been whooped much worse by the other top contenders.

Vera got completely outclassed against O’Malley and got dropped by Figgy. Cory took him to a boring decision where he never committed to any of his strikes

Font was getting bobbed around by Aldo, Figgy AND vera. Sandhagen couldn’t do anything to him, yes he was injured but that’s no excuse for a win based entirely off control time.

Lost the first two rounds against song and only started to win as song lost more and more blood. Yan throughly outclassed song with a torn groin and meniscus from the very first minute

Plus he in my humble opinion got gifted a decision win against a 5 foot 3 lineker. Argue about the philosophy of when you call a fight a robbery all you want, I didn’t agree with the decision so I’m counting it against him. Rocked and outgrappled by a guy he had 8 inches of height on

Can only knock out an old man like edgar who was on a 3 fight losing streak at 38, and moraes who was on a 2 fight losing streak, and would then lose another 6 fights in a row

The guy keeps getting better, he will be champion some day.

I think he's a touch overrated, but not extremely.

He's still one of the better well rounded Mix martial artists at BW and will always be a tough test for anyone not in the top 5.

but IMO he is not champ material. He doesn't excel far enough in any 1 area. His fight IQ might be his strongest trait.

Oh and edgar was coming off a split win over Pedro Munhoz btw

sounds pretty good.

not sure you know how fighting works, but beating good guys and losing to elite guys usually means you're good.

It's all relative, depends how you rate someone to determine if they're overrated or not. Cory is a fighter that didn't start early in life and has no athletic gifts and his build is predisposed to be taken advantage of by takedown artists. He is a dude who's elite in the UFC but I could totally see losing to a lot of guys outside of it. People who thought he'd be a champion were massively overrating him, people who thought he was a big knockout threat for laying out completely washed Edgar and a guy like Moraes were for sure overrating him. But he is good enough to beat guys like Chito, Bautista, Yadong which is elite.

I know people complain about too much gambling advertising on TV these days, but this is the perfect example of the utility of betting lines.

Cory Sandhagen has had 14 UFC fights. On the betting lines, Sandhagen was favored to win 10 of those fights, and was the underdog in 4 UFC fights.

Sandhagen in fact has a 10-4 UFC record.

Of those 10 wins, only one was an upset (against Lineker). Of those 4 losses, only one was an upset (against Dillashaw).

The fact is that Sandhagen has won 90% of the fights he was favored to win, and has only won 1/4 fights he was expected to lose.

Verdict: OP is objectively wrong.

He has lots of good wins, Lineker, Assuncao, Moraes (first fighter to start his downfall), Song, Chito, Font and some whatever wins over super green Bautista and ancient Edgar. He doesn't have any elite signature wins though. He's a top 5 gatekeeper kinda guy, if you beat him you're a title contender but if not there's a good chance he'll beat you rather easily.

He's good. Top 5 sounds about right. People who expected him to be a champ were probably overrating him a bit indeed. He's been top 5 for like 5 years now and that seems to be his peak. Interestingly, I feel like his grappling has improved, yet his striking has degraded, leaving him at about the same spot in the division that he's been in for years.

When did I say he wasn’t good?
Ranked #4 bantamweight in the UFC , yep he sucks.
So when did I say he sucks?

I said he is extremely overrated, I don’t know abiut on here but across social media he gets glazed to an insane degree. theres people saying like he will ko o:’malley if they ever fought and getting hundreds of likes on these comments, or people will casually say “he destroyed vera” or something like this. You can be a very good fighter and still be overrated if people act like you’re champion level despite losing to everyone who actually is

/thread this guy won

Sandhagen won easily by grappling
Font was getting bobbed around by Aldo, Figgy AND vera. Sandhagen couldn’t do anything to him, yes he was injured but that’s no excuse for a win based entirely off control time.
Sandhagen won easily by grappling while injured
Lost the first two rounds against song and only started to win as song lost more and more blood. Yan throughly outclassed song with a torn groin and meniscus from the very first minute
In other words, Sandhagen finished Song via giant cut, while Yan won a close decision

you're right that he's overrated, people were picking him to beat umar and they act like he is an MMA genius when he really just is a well rounded pillowfisted guy
