"Walked back"?

The range of his original estimate was conditional, and it spanned from 26K-550K. It also didn't offer a projection for full lockdown measures at the low end.

call me crazy, i consider changing “up to 500,000” to “20,000 or less” a bit of a walk back.

Not "crazy"-- just "wrong". You clearly don't understand the nature of those estimations. The 550K was without any mitigation measures whatsoever.

It's not clear to me if he downwardly revised his projections at all, since I don't know the extent of Britain's countermeasures to control the epidemic, and how they relate to the lowest estimate in that paper, but if he did revise them downward, that's quite heartening, because it means he would probably also adjust his prediction for the USA to a total number of deaths below the 104K that previously would have been the low estimate from that paper for us.

I still can believe they are turning the super dome and various convention centers into hospitals. Are we really going to have a 1,000 patients in the super dome? WTF! I think it said they were setting up the Chicago convention center to accommodate 5,000 or something crazy.

This is crazyAF. One of my kids suggested this would probably be the best time to get the virus, in the beginning before all the hospitals are full and the healthcare workers sick. This actually is starting to look like good advice.

Holy Cow. Florida just had 209 deaths and now stands at 310 total deaths and 9150 infected. It will soon stand as the 3rd most infected state and 3rd most state deaths. DeSantis won't get elected for his next term and I could see another republican running against him. Trump is going to throw him under the bus. His administration gave him 100% of the supplies he requested and a second round and he still managed to fuck things up

Where are you getting this info

that’s the point, he revised his numbers from half a million to 20,000 or less. I don’t mean “walking back” in a pejorative sense. Just pointing out things don’t seem as dire as they did not that long ago. That’s a good thing.

we arent here yet (probably never) but this movie rings true on many levels
maybe give this a look

We are currently spending tax dollars that could be going towards the crisis on beefing up Faucci's security detail because right wing conspiracy nuts have started sending death threats. Paying extra to protect our medical experts from violently dumb science-hating conservatives pretty much sums up where this whole things is at.

I expect that trend to continue..

Man.. this is fucking dark. My friends can't say goodbye to their family members, local legends are dying in agony.

I paid all my bills. I know I'm a socialist but I don't ask for anything. I had two great jobs ob top of my entertainment career. I did everything right. Even had two grand in my savings.

It's all gone. I was doing so well in life, daily working on my skills... I've got enough food for two weeks, I lost two 1099 jobs. Now I'm begging the feds for a day of pay a week.

It's not looking good y'all.

At least that is something that is (unfortunately) necessary. Trump spending even more money on golfing is not.

The most disappointing aspect of the response has been the function of the medical supply chain. The Federal Gov should have taken the lead from the start on this as the primary coordinator. It's been a clusterfuck from the start, and unfortunately remains so. This should have been treated as a national crisis, and not a state-by-state one. Esp when we've had free travel from the start.

Korea is so far ahead of everyone else in their response. Why isn't walk-up testing feasible in the states?

There is some degree of comfort knowing that most of the country is sharing your hardship and anxiety.
