So, the President blames China for lying, despite the fact that he was getting daily briefings saying the Chinese were lying, yet what did he decide to do? Suck of Xi for weeks, taking him at his word and telling everyone nothing will happen.

The 50% will milk it the entire four months of making more than they make---given it's $25/hour here to not work at the moment based on a 40-hour work week. Tell their employers they're scared, get a doctor's note, it's not as easy to order them back in this climate as you're pretending.
Who would not try to work 0 hours for what they have to work 60 hours to make in the same week? Or maybe they can't even do it working 60 hours. Yeah, they're going to waltz right back into the workforce ASAP.

Seeing as the Trump admin is always on the side of the corporate class over their labor, I doubt most people are gonna see their jobs as being perfectly safe, and just sit home.

Most people on the planet are useful idiots. The point is simply that America's useful idiots have a diverse variety of outlooks and philosophies, which is different from most nations where the useful idiots all fall in line.

As for the subject at hand, it's a bit rich to act like the US is the model of idiocy when, per capita, there are a lot of nations doing a lot worse, including Spain, Italy, France, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, and even Sweden.

Now, it's possible that the US will catch up to some or even most of these, since the virus was a little bit later ramping up in North America... but as of now, I don't see a lot of evidence that the US has been making poorer decisions than the rest of the world.
