<<Console Wars>> PS5 vs. XSX

It was not neck and neck. The PS5 was dropping to the low 40's in the frames they showed while the XSX stayed glued at 60fps with RTS on in sequences they showed. Nevertheless, as with most games, these problematic sequences compose a minority of overall gameplay (around 5% or so of the game).

It won't take 4-5 years for consoles. The XSX is already outperforming the PS5 in several multiplat games, at least, I haven't reviewed analysis of dozens, if there is, and specifically when discussing major differences, like res/framerate target differences, the presence of optional framerate modes, or completely new graphical features like ray-tracing, VRS, mesh shaders, etc. The PS5 only seems to enjoy an advantage that will be patched away. You're thinking of PC where developer-side care for stuff like APIs is sluggish (ex. DX12/Vulkan support). "It's easier to develop for the PS5" because it's always easier to develop for something that doesn't add anything new. It's easier to develop for the PS4 and Xbox than new GPUs on the PC, for example.

The primary analysis they're not offering, since DRS now rules the world, is the average resolution on each system, or the total time spent at x resolution at various levels (ex. 1080p, 1200p, 1440p, 1600p, 1800p, 2160p). The recent spate of multiplat games performing so closely has been surprising, given the raw advantage for the Xbox with nearly identical hardware; however not too surprising, as Rich pointed out it's easier for developers in the blitz to prepare for the big launch to just run the same mode on both machines, setting this baseline lower to satisfying what the PS5 can handle, with the possibility (not the guarantee) that they will optimize the overhead the XSX enjoys given more time.
Can you show me which multiplat games the Series X is outperforming the PS5 in across the board? You seem to be the one source claiming that.

I've already posted several in this thread.

Yet all the new releases are contradicting you. Weird.
I just discussed COD:BOCW, and it runs better on the XSX. The previous examples I cited have not been contradicted, except Valhalla, which was one I expressed skepticism about prior to its release, because as incredulous websites like DSO reported when controversy first swirled about the PS5's nerfed resolution, the possibility that even the XSX could run it at 4K natively seemed unlikely.

I'll iterate that the XSX's advantage is material, on nearly identical hardware architecture & blueprints, so like the PS4, even for those games not prevailing now, in time, they will equalize at a minimum, or outperform its inferior competitor once the game versions are fully matured. Patches are no longer rare, either. They're routine. Frankly, they're obnoxiously excessive, IMO.

In some modes it does, in others it doesn’t.

I said across the board, this hasn’t been the case.

In the mode that matters it does. After all, Dirt 5 runs like shit on the PS5 in SDR, but nobody cares about that mode when comparing nex-gen graphical performance.

Lol never change.

To the best of my knowledge, there isnt a game thats out and out better performing on the XSX. I think nearly all third party titles have modes that run better on the PS5 and some modes that run better on the XSX. Outside of Dirt 5, I dont think any third party games performs way better on either console.

Thats good for the consumer.

madmick and dizzy always chopping it up in here hahaha

any news on when they might actually be in stores? is it still potentially April?

I only bought a Series S b/c A) i only had a One S, not X so it is an upgrade per se), and i had no chance at getting a PS5 or XSX. Had i been to the base PX five minutes earlier i could have gotten a Series X, but whatever

I figured ill just get a PS5 (to switch it up, or maybe Series X to keep gamepass concurrent) once they're actually obtainable and just give my son the Series S.

Either way, youre not missing out much. The games will always be there and by the time you do get the chosen console, more games would have been released. Unless youre itching for Demon Souls or Spiderman Miles Morales, Id just wait it out. Dont pay the extortionate prices people are paying for the scalped consoles.

Should've hit up the Gamestop in Yucca Valley.

Good reference haha
Afaik, both the gamestop's on base and in YV were all sold out with preorders

The base PX doesnt do preorders, they got 50 of each and were gone swiftly

Seems like the dips for the PS5 in RT mode is due to bugs. So in general the PS5 runs COD better....

So the more of the major third party titles released are generally running better on the PS5 on supposed weaker hardware. How about that? I was expecting the opposite tbh, but it seems like Sony really did a fantastic job on it.

Hold up, Gamestop on base?

lolz @ checking this thread (for the first time, i think?) and seeing a convo about yucca/29p.

ugh.

the one time i was in yucca, we got jumped at the skate park 9-4 (realistically, 9-2... given that 1 was a 100 lb manlet who was KO'd by the suckerpunch that started it and the other was a one-legged girl [seriously] ) and we got detained for hours. as if that shithole wasn't bad enough.

pendleton was so much better...

I was only there for about a month in the summer years ago for training. The base was nice and I loved the weather and climate. Sure were some...interesting people out in town though.

If your on a bit of a budget I don't see why anybody would want to go with PlayStation. The difference in graphics and load times aren't noticeable, but the Xbox still has better hardware and it also has more HD space. The big thing is gamepass though, I mean the $10 and $15 a month plans are an incredible value the 350 games you get.

Playstation has a handful of cool exclusives, but it's not like there isn't anything to play on the Xbox. Most of the AAA titles are on both consoles anyway. Game Pass is just too good of a value for me to consider Playstation. EA Access is what ultimately made me go with the XB1 the last time around.

I guess I could see if you're used to the controller. The VR aspect is cool too. I really hope Microsoft partners with Oculus or something like that as I think VR is pretty neat. I have an Oculus GO, but these new consoles can push way better graphics.
