Confessions of a gear-bitch

Assuming this story is true...it is a great example of what seems to happen every time when a person takes steroids when they're but an infant in their lifting career: Not much. His results are unimpressive because, well, he was quite unimpressive himself before he started.

He just learned the hard ways steroids aren't a miracle drug.

I would say that 90+% of what that guy wrote was either a lie or an embellishment.

god, I'm something like 135lbs? 60kg and my lifts are better than his, chins with a 35 plate? come on man, you don't need juice for that, I was doing them with a 77lb plate, and getting ALL the possible side affects? Man he must have been REAAALY unlucky...

Well, in his defense, he *did* claim to have about 100lbs of bodyweight on you. Bodyweight exercises like chins tend to be easier if you have, y'know, less bodyweight.

Many people cite Ben Johnson's failed drug test at the 1988 Olympics where he smashed the world record in the 100m dash as the catalyst that started the chain reaction which led to the Steroid Control Act.

I knew it was a Canadians fault.

It's a good thing we discovered Canada's plan to develop super soldiers and take over the world. I always knew that laid back attitude was a front.

exaggeration or not

after reading that, i dont think i will ever use steroids

(not that i ever would in the first place)

perhaps it was inadvertently the the desired effect of that article

What the fuck is an inadvertent desired effect?

You don't know? Der, Bort. C'mon.

That story seems a little embellished. He says he lost 13 pounds overnight. I think this guy is trying desperately to sell books.

His routine sucked. At 200 lbs he could barely DB benchpress 90's. After years of training I assume.

There is a guy at my gym who took massive steriods in the 80's, mostly Decabolin. He competed in Powerlifting in 1984-1986. He got to a 600 lb squat, 650 deadlift, and 350 bench at ~250 BW. He said that back then most people, even power lifters that he knew, did not know how to train properly or use steroids properly, including himself. He got off teh roids because his blood pressure was sky high.

Thank god for Rippetoe and teh interwebs. Amen

Joe DeFranco, Cosgrove, Sheiko, etc. also.

Did he lose all those numbers pretty quickly off the roids or what?

He said that he lost 20 lbs. He didn't say what kind of time frame. I didn't ask about strength loss. He is there every friday. I'll ask him more about it when I see him again.

Like anything else if it was legal people would take too much of it and end up with serious problems.

So now instead of athletes taking the correct dose and competing you have athletes taking additional doses thinking it will propel them ahead of the people taking normal doses... Just ban it from competition all together but take an educational approach toward steroids instead of making them out to be any more dangerous than injesting the 500+ grams of sugar most Americans injest today.

Kind of like soda, cigarettes, fast food, trans fats, and alcohol? Anything in excess is bad, not just steroids.

Don't pick apart my response and try to make it something it isnt. I mentioned the dangerously high sugar intake problem at the bottom of my response. Also if you want me to take it to the level you just did comparing the abuse of soda and steroids is irrelevant. Try to be less of a dipshit just because you are bored.
