It's crazy because only 2 years DC enlisted Jim Lee to be the penciler of their biggest title JUstice League.

off the top of my head Steve McNiven & Sara Pichelli are pretty fucking awesome

And off the top of your head you'd be absolutely correct.

Mcniven is one of my all time favs. His best art was Civil War, Old Man Logan and he was also awesome when he drew Fantastic Four. The marvel knights title called "4".

He was also at his best when he drew the Sentry story arc on New avengers but Civil War was him at his absolute best

^^ yeah man, I heard he's working on Uncanny Inhumans. can't wait, Inhumans are awesome.

edit: he was great in the Death of Wolverine too.

I love Steve as an artist but the problem with his art is that he isn't a monthly artist. His style is at it's best when he isn't under time constraints.

IMO you put McNiven on a huge crossover or the first couple issues of a series that is possibly starting at number 1 or on a title u wanna sell the hell out of, combined with a big name writer.

Outside of that when McNiven has to turn lots of pages in monthly it seems as if his art suffers. That's why I never mind waiting for great art work. It's worth the delay.

Yeah Jim Lee nowadays has basically been obsolete as the go to art style that everyone tries to emulate. Seems like now Ivan Reis and Jason Fabok are the top dogs at DC in terms of art.

I would have said JH Williams and Andrea Sorrentino, but dam now Marvel, particularly X-Men has Sorrentino, lucky bastards

but Capullo, Rocafort, Frank, and Jae Lee seem to be among the top dogs as well

Jae Lee's characters always look "soft" to me. The lack of strong jawlines and the sparseness of his lines and more focus on rendering make his characters look younger or have less definition. His art looks good but I think if his scenes arent busy I get kind of bored looking at his drawings.

Capullo is fantastic. Although it isn't what I think when I think of comic art. But I like the clean, tight linework and the cartoonish look to them

Well Justice League 3000 just became the best book being put out by DC AND Marvel.

Looking for some xmen and fantastic 4 graphic novel recommendations. I've been reading comics for a while now just never knew where to start with xmen.

If you want something more recent, you should read Joss Whedon's ASTONISHING X-MEN #1 to #24 and the conclusion GIANT SIZE ASTONISHING X-MEN. This is the BEST X-Men story in the past decade or so.

If you have the time, patience and resources, you should read Chris Claremont's UNCANNY X-MEN epic run from #94 to #247. This is the formation of the second team which includes most of the mutants everybody knows and loves today.

As for FANTASTIC FOUR, read John Byrne's run from #232 to #293.

Not necessarily. Whedon's run is pretty much standalone.

Also if you haven't yet, read OLD MAN LOGAN and THE ULTIMATES 1 and 2 (by Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch) and thank me later.

Own all 3 they are great stories. Gonna order whedons run today. I just finished Geoffs run on green lantern. Wanted to get into the xmen universe next. Thanks again for the recommendations.

John Byrne & Jim Lee rule. That is all.

When does Prophet Earth War start? I've got both the Strikefile issues but a legit issue hasn't been released in a while.

Carl Grimes becomes a man in the newest issue of Walking Dead. I really like the cover for the issue.

I picked up the 1st issue of Divinity a 4 issue mini from Valiant and it was interesting.
At the height of the Cold War, the Soviet Union – determined to win the Space Race at any cost – green lit a dangerously advanced mission. They sent a man farther into the cosmos than anyone has gone before or since. Lost in the stars, he encountered something unknown. Something that…changed him.

Long thought lost and erased from the history books, he has suddenly returned, crash-landing in the Australian Outback. The few that have been able to reach him believe him to be a deity – one who turned the scorched desert into a lush oasis. They say he can bend matter, space, and even time to his will. Earth is about to meet a new god. And he’s a communist.

An interesting part of the story left out is that the man they send into space is of African descent (not African American because he is born in the Soviet Union as far as we know) and is found on the doorstep of his adoptive parents. I like that you go into the story knowing it's about a Soviet Union launched space mission but have no idea the chosen astronaut is of African descent. I think this was intentional as the cover is a shot from behind the astronaut.

I'm about the finish the 5th tpb of Scalped and as a fan of Aaron's Thor and Southern Bastards, Scalped is on another level. I think Scalped is like Garth Ennis's Preacher in that it's going to be really hard for Aaron to top. I would love to see the comic translated to TV.

+1. Claremont can be a bit wordy at times, but the story lines are a amazing and not to mention probably the my favorite comic art ever. Great old school style.
