Chinese tourists

I don't particularly find them rude, per se, but they fucking annoy me as they have absolutely zero common sense or sense of awareness. They literally have a hive mindset, if one crosses the road they all follow without checking for traffic or anything, just swarm around following each other like sheep.

The reason they take so many pictures, by the way (I lived there for a year or so), and don't seem to actually pay attention to/enjoy the thing they are snapping is....

Status and materialism. They want to take photos home to show their peers and show how wealthy and cosmopolitan they must be to be able to travel overseas on vacation. You can't impress people with memories. A memory isn't a material 'thing' that you can own and use to impress others, whereas a photo is. So they have little need to enjoy being in the place - they just want proof that they were there, to show off. Everything they do is a subtle brag.

Re: picture snapping, it's generally a thing of the classless and those who just got into money. I have in-law cousins like that who are not even that rich, just way richer than the rest of their family here and back in Europe, who do this kind of shit all the time, and if I had any common sense in me I'd find a way to ignore it. But I don't and I haven't, being exposed to peasantry causes me hives. The bottom line is that class has to come before money, because it's much harder if it's the other way around. Their kids have some hope of shedding the cape of primitivity, but they, the parents, don't, their cause is lost and the ship sailed.

Class before money, no other way.

It has been well known for a few years now that the Chinese have taken the worst tourists championship from the English. Apparently it is so bad that the Chinese government has had to issue warnings to its citizens that if they are caught behaving a certain way while outside of the country, they will be punished when they get back.

Some Chinese tourists just stole from my wife’s work. My wife is Chinese (not real Chinese, she was born here), and I had to break it to her that her people are shitty tourists.

Yea I've heard this theory as well. Essentially, with the explosion of this middle class has spawned millions of classless people .
I think the theory is more that it has enabled this horde of classless people to engage in tourism.

It sounds quite similar to Russian people, too. And yes, I have been to Turkey and seen how our people are... it isn't nice sometimes..

Btw, how are Chinese girls to date? I haven't had experience with them, but I just it isn't too different to what I am used to.

Sounds like if white trash Americans suddenly all got passports and an interest in culture outside of guns and hating immigrants. Shit would be exactly the same. Large tour groups of any race or nationality and then you throw a bunch of fucking kids in the mix? Avoid at all costs.

Worse than Lebanese?

Then again lebnanese dont need to be tourist to be loud, obnoxious and rude.

English are actually considered good tourists but that may just be in India. I went to a resort place in India a couple of years ago and my taxi driver was complaining about the Russian tourists vs the great English tourists they used to get.

Aren't all tourists bad? They leave their homes to act out and act entitled. The Chinese get pissed off when tourists mess with their landmarks and it happens all the time. But yeah mainlanders are rude and loud, especially with kids involved.

Here in Taiwan, even though the people are one and the same less than a century ago with China, Chinese tourists are not very popular around here either. The only ones liking them are the businesses that rely on the sheer amount that travel here.

But I've also heard from tour guides in Korea who deals exclusively with Chinese-speaking tourists (Chinese/Taiwanese/Singaporean) that the level of class Chinese tourists really depend on where the group is from. He said ones from major cities are actually quite good. The stereotypical Chinese tourists that gives them a bad rap are usually the ones from countryside where spitting and urinating on the street is the norm.
Yeah the fresh off the boat ones give us city folks a bad name. Hong Kong really has a huge aversion to the folks who come from the village side

Disclaimer: this is not a racist thread, and I know this doesn't apply to all Chinese tourists...SLWL mods, just chill and hear me out.

And to my Chinese Sherbros, I mean no disrespect to your people.

So over the course of the last 3 years I've been traveling a great deal. And on occasion on trip advisor and other travelling sites I will come across a pretty racist review about Chinese folk

"...the tour was great, but the Chinese tourists were so rude and every where ..."

I never thought anything of it and usually dismiss such observations because of my racial background.

Well...

Yesterday, I went on an all day kayaking excursion to many of the small islands on the outskirts of Phuket.

They split you up into two large boats/groups and it takes about about an hour to get to your destination ...

Prior to boarding us, our thai tour guide takes me and the better half to the side and says, "I'm sorry, but your trip is going to be very loud."

I'm thinking, no big deal, and thought he was referring to the engines.

He then says, "there are a lot of Chinese on your boat. They are very loud. And they have children...much much louder ."

I'm thinking to myself , how bad could it possibly be...

Well, it was terrible ...the children were way out of control screaming running around the boat the entire time...
And when it came time for the buffet , they loaded entire plate fulls of certain items rather than taking modest portions .

On the 2nd part of the tour, a different thai guide informed me (and this is all unsolicited info) that all of the guides try to claim or volunteer to be guides for americans, aussies, Japanese, Koreans, Russians etc...
He said that the guides take turns in selecting chinese...or draw straws.

Do you have bad experiences with Chinese tourists? Did I just have bad luck?

What does SLWL stand for? I tried Googling it but I couldn't find the meaning.

Like all girls, some are cool, others are batshit crazy.

I don't care about race, but I hate loud people across the board.
