I don't love any fighter lmao. Why'd I love DDP? Or Chama? Or any fighter? I like some fighters trajectories and stories but I don't let any preferences cloud my analysis when it's fighter A vs fighter B.That one doesn't hold any personal feelings for you. You aren't creating a zillion threads worshipping Gane. You do for Pereira. Because you love him. So you pick him to win a fight that he will be a huge underdog in if it gets made. And if you're wrong...you just move on and it doesn't matter. You may THINK you're being objective but you aren't.
I don't have that luxury when I bet fights. I have to put aside my personal feelings about fighters and be objective or I'll lose $. That's the difference.
Again, I was rooting for Chimaev. I was glad he won. Like, knowing his path (a little ofc), the fact he used to fight so often that he needed to put on brakes on his activity due to sickness from overtraining and weight cutting... And the fact he still always dreamed of becoming a champion — That to me made me a supporter of him to get his chance and get the belt when the opportunity came 100%
And he was one of the first fighters I got to know since when I started to follow UFC again (before that, I'd follow more here and then). I remember reading about a "inhumane fighter who destroys everyone". When I tuned in to see, I saw clips of one of his fights like ragdolling a Chinese fighter (actually I watched that live) and I got into the "Chimaev is a monster!!" ... Seeing his fight vs Burns too and the respect he had after, specially, in contrast to the way ppl would picture him as "cold killer" was very cool. I really like fighters who, no matter how tough the fight is, like vs Burns, go to hug the opponent. Or vs Usman, when Usman wasn't agreeing with the MD loss and was a little like "wut", he went there and greeted Usman, hugging him...
He's very respectful and cool too, his "crazy gimmick" is also cool with the "everybody, I kill everybody, I'm the king I'm the champion, woohoo" interview to DC or his interview to Joe Rogan post the Holland fight — ppl Boo'ing him since he didn't make weight for the Diaz fight and first thing he said — "what now?? I smashed your guys, what now?? I'll die in the cage, here is my home!! My coach is a jiujitsu master, so I'm the black belt here, my boxing coach is the best, I'm the Mike Tyson, I'm Muhammad Ali, wooo!!!" ... It was just cool. And the fact he kept trying to make weight aggravated his illness later on, likely... And he still fought a back up fighter (who seems to fight everytime lol Holland) and gave two fucks about what the crowd was saying. The crowd is there to think fighters must die for them, when that weight cut took a toll of his health. And he still tried his best, and the crowd there Boo'ing when they don't even think about the health and sacrifice he went through to be there. It was just cool the way he told them to fuck off.
His speech post Usman fight too. I won't get into politics, but he speaks imo what I really feel and his last sentence of "don't you guys know the heart we Chechens have?" ... That was very powerful. Like, I root for him against any fighter except JJ lol. Vs Pereira, it's 50/50 (I like both in the sense of their careers so I'd be ok regardless of the outcome). I thought he wouldn't win vs DDP, I'm glad in a way I wasn't right because I wish I was wrong. Lol... I rather have Khamzat Chimaev getting that belt than him having that opportunity and not making it, specially to someone like DDP who picks fighters apart psychologically. I've even the Borz theme, that he played on his social media after beating Whittaker, recorded on my device... I was rooting for him a lot, I didn't even watch the fight since I thought he would lose. When I woke up and my brother told me he dominated I was legit happy lol
