There are a lot of shitty people and they make bad animal owners. I usually have 1-2 inside cats and an outlaw outside cat that kills mice and voles and such. If you walk into a house and smell cat piss it's because they either haven't trained them right or they are too lazy to change the litter box. Trash people have trash houses. If I go into someone's home and smell cat piss I also see dishes piled up and a generally disheveled place. Didn't mean to jumo your shit on it, it just chaps my ass when people say "I hate cats". How in the fuck can you hate an animal?

It's not like I wouldn't help a kitties in need or be friendly with one if we cross paths, I've taken in several batches to the shelter when I lived in shacktown and wild cats were a daily thing ...I just don't want one in the house. Also not just cat piss but them themselves ...I think they smell weird. Also I have an ex who's cat fucked my shit up with the peeing on everything and it left a lasting impression.

Rethinking cats

We've got one because my wife wanted a kitten about 10 years ago. He started out inside but he would fuck up potted plants and stuff. I don't know if he was trying to piss/shit in the flower pots or if he was just messing with them. Anyway he got his ass moved outside and seems to be pretty happy with it. He does get on our vehicles which is a pain but overall he's pretty cool. He even fetches squirrels when I hit them with the air rifle to keep them from stealing pecans.

It's not a strawman argument, but it is a logical fallacy. It's a "whataboutism" or Tu quoque ("you too").

A stronger argument is that while it’s true outdoor pet cats with claws can harm ecosystems, de-clawing doesn’t solve that problem. If two de-clawed cats escape and reproduce, their offspring will be feral cats with claws, continuing the same ecological damage.The real solution is responsible pet management: Spaying or neutering cats and keeping them indoors or in enclosed outdoor spaces. That approach prevents both ecological harm and animal suffering, achieving the goal without resorting to cruelty.

Moreover, de-clawing is inhumane in both scenarios: If you keep cats indoors, it causes chronic pain and behavioral problems for your own personal benefit; if you let them outdoors, they have the same pain, and it leaves them defenseless and vulnerable to injury. In either case, it’s an unethical and unnecessary practice.
