Media Charles Oliviera: I Will ONLY Fight Topuria for Belt - Guy Is ALL Talk

Sounds like the solution here is to strip Islam and then have Charles vs. Ilia for the belt.

<seedat>
I would be all for it, but I doubt they do that... it's more likely they force Islam to fight him, which would be just as good.

Then if Ilia wins the belt he can ignore Charles and give Arman a shot instead, that would be perfect.

You know, when Merab fought Umar, everyone was shitting on him for ducking Umar.

I was the only guy who was okay with it if he didn't want Umar. I mean he had to go through hell to get a title, but now they were obviously trying to set him up for Umar to be the champ. Obviously Merab had other ideas.

I don't think Topuria at LW is as good as Umar at BW nor does he have as much of a claim at fighting Oliveira as Umar did.

Umar was just coming off a win over Sandhagen, and if you ask me, he was a lot more deserving than O'Malley ever was.

I do think Oliveira is ducking Topuria. I don't think its too much of an ask for Topuria to fight someone like Oliveira who is not really close to a title shot right now.

Now, I get why he doesn't want that smoke, because while I don't know if Topuria will necessarily beat him, but I'd favour Topuria against Oliveira. I think he probably finishes him.

I dont ncessarily blame him for not wanting a fight that is a lose-lose fight for him since if he beats Topuria, he just beat a FW, but I don't necessarily think he has a sound argument for turning down a fight against him either, especially him coming off a win over Max and Volkanovski.

The only guy who I think ever thought made sense to me if he didn't want to fight another guy was Merab against Umar. And he eventually fought the guy too and beat him fair and square.

I think it's ridiculous to be talking like this, "oh Islam smashed me in two rounds but I will only fight this guy if you beat the other guy for me"

I think Topuria would lay out Oliveira in two rounds.

You know, but I wanna be fair to Oliveira here too.

I don't think Topuria wants to face Arman either who I'd think would smash Topuria lol.

It is sometimes funny how the best fighters can be so selective in who they wanna fight lol. Like Evloev would be a lot tougher fight than Oliveira for Topuria too but I don't see him wanting that smoke either.

I guess I gotta be fair to Oliveira not wanting that smoke against Topuria because Topuria is just being as selective as Oliveira lol.

How do you suppose Arman smashes Topuria?

At least Charlie would have a huge reach advantage and dangerous submissions off his back.

Arman would be badly outgunned in the striking, and would have a hard time controlling Ilia on the ground.

No he wouldn't be badly outgunned in the striking. Bryce Mitchell was landing pretty good on Topuria.

Against Arman?

I think Topuria would chin Oliveira but I think Arman would grapplefudge him.

It's really, really, really hard to badly outstrike someone like Arman. Topuria won't do it.

I mean I been wrong before, but I'd be surprised if that happens.

It was also really really really hard to badly outstrike Volk and Max, and Ilia chinned both of them back to back.

Arman is tough, but Ilia is no slouch in the grappling, no one has had any success with him on the ground and he had his way with Bryce who is a solid grappler.

That's not the same. Ilia just was a better striker. This is MMA.

Once Bryce took Topuria down, Topuria couldn't do nuthing.

Let me just finish by saying that Arman is no Topuria.

If he really wants to prove himself, what's better than to fighting the number 2 guy in the division?

Do you see Arman calling anyone but Arman out at the top?

I wonder why.

But Topuria is really good. Good luck to the guy.

I will also say this. I think Islam beats Topuria, but I'd even go as far as saying that Arman is tougher fight for Topuria.

Why would you strip Islam ? <WhatIsThis>

You know, I'm not hating on Topuria. He's a hell of a fighter. He might even beat Islam, though I highly doubt it.

I think Topuria would starch Charles too. So I'm not saying that he's not great.

I do think though, he didn't want nothing to do with Evloev, he doesn't seem to want nothing to do with Arman. All I'm saying is he's wanting to fight guys who I believe are easier fights for him than those guys. Which I think is a fair thing to point out.

Topuria might have a solid BJJ, but no one knows if he can handle that level of grappling/wrestling. Like I said, once Mitchell took him down, he was fish outta water. Evloev is a tier above Mitchell, and Arman is likely two tiers above.

All in all, I like Topuria, and wish him the best.

If I'm him, I'm going to angle for Charles, whom I think Topura would starch in a couple rounds, or Islam, who might be declining right before our eyes.

I still think Islam beats him, but now seems to be as good of a time as any to fight Islam.

Actually the man of the hour in running from Illia is none other than Islam. It was just announced that Islam has officially ducked Illia, saying he had to fight a contender first (yeah right). I don't know- I think Islam saw how easily Illia disposed of Volk (after struggling so bad with Volk) and ran to the hills to hide out for as long as he could. If Illia KOs a high-level contender, Islam won't have any more excuses though. He'll have to face the music.

Serious question, did you even watch the fight?

Sounds like you missed the part where Ilia ragdolled Bryce then submitted him.

no I read the play by play sorry I missed that part.

But did you miss the part where Topuria rocked him when you watched the fight

Yeah, Ilia was rocking him the entire fight, and stuffing a bunch of takedowns.

Bryce manages to get a takedown with like 50 seconds left in the first round, and Ilia just kinda ties him up and rides out the round, doesn't bother wasting energy trying to escape or get up, seems to know the round is about to end.

In the second round he stuffs every takedown, and starts reversing and taking Bryce down, then eventually overpowers him and chokes him out.

Bryce actually put up a decent fight, and I think Ilia has improved a lot since then because against Bryce he was throwing a lot of wild strikes and showed Bryce no respect and also I think wanted to prove a point by outgrappling him in the end.

Ilia is just a former champ now. An unranked one in LW be it. Ilia getting an immediate shot is just silly talk. A fight with Charles sounds like the logical next step. Gives him the chance to prove himself in the new division and a chance to earn a shot at the belt.

This is how I would matchup
Islam- Arman
Charles-Ilia

IFW

when Charles pulled out he had to fight Arman to get a title shot again

I think it's fair that after Arman pulled out, he fights Charles to decide who gets a title shot, but this time a 5 rounds fight

the problem is the timing
