Topuria has Only One Possible Way He Will Win.

Josh Emmet is a standup brawler. Max Holloway is a much better boxer than Emmet.

The decisions were 3 round fights. That's a huge difference to a 5 round championship fight.

Topuria never went 5 rounds.

I get your overall points, but can you explain how Topuria didn't go 5 rounds against Emmett?

I think there's also a chance max knocks him out/tko. even if its small i think its a possibility.

You're already scared of Max getting destroyed in the rematch if he happens to land a lucky punch tomorrow?
you probably joking, but your question makes me question your age category.

I'm scared of topuria talking, nothing else.

None of those early fights are indications of his grappling, he was a very green fighter at the time. Ortega and Yair are better indicators (Max outgrappled Yair). Topuria has also been taken down for what it's worth. I do not expect grappling to be much of a factor as Topuria is not the offensive juggernaut some people here believe him to be.

I agree, but as I said, nobody has really gone in with a grapple heavy approach. Yair and Ortega don't even have that capability as they lack good wrestling, so those didn't tell us much on Max's current grappling abilitiy. The last time Max faced good wrestlers was Lamas and Bermudez ( I don't count ancient Edgar), and they were too long ago to really take much away from.

I agree with you on your criticisms on Topuria, too, although he is a bigger wrestling threat than what Max has been facing in recent years with exception to volk. Personally I have my doubts on whether or not Ilia has the cardio to do a lot of grappling in a five round fight.

Illia is unequivocally the better offensive wrestler, but Max has shown really good counter wrestling with Volk in his prime.

I think you hit the nail on the head, does Illia have the build and gas tank to spend a lot of energy chain wrestling Max?

Probably not, but if he wants to shoot to get him against the cage as an opportunity to uncork his ridiculously tight boxing combinations, that makes sense to me. Especially if he finds out early on he's not winning the footwork battle to get into position.

I see zero evidence Topuria has better wrestling than Lamas or Bermudez, they were both American bred D1 guys. Topuria is more of an opportunistic grappler like Ortega.

Also let's not ignore how stellar his wrestling defense has looked in the losses to Volk. Volk went 0-4 in their first fight, 3-9 in their second fight but Max got right back up from each takedown.

Volk took Max down 3 times in the first fight and 4 times in the second fight. I'm not sure where you got your stats from, but yes, as I said, Max's tdd has generally looked good, but also, like I said, we haven't seen it tested against anyone with worthwhile wrestling recently other than Volk.

You are completely off. Check the ufc stats website, Volk went 0-4 in the first fight, 3-9 in the second. You owe me 30 minutes, I rewatched the first fight tonight just to make sure I wasn't crazy. Max showed elite wrestling defense in those fights against the second greatest featherweight of all time.

First, I'm not saying he won't win. He has a good chance of winning.

But he has only one way of plausibly winning. Trapping Max against the fence and unloading to knock him out.

1. That is what Topuria does every single time.
2. Max almost never gets trapped against the fence and gets unloaded on. His boxing and movement are too good.
3. Max never gets taken down and submitted. So it will be a standup war.
4. Topuria has hardly ever fights a 5 round decision. Max has fought a large number of 5 round decisions.
5. Max never gets finished or even rocked standing. All his losses were decisions. But Topuria hardly ever does decisions and hardly a 5 round one.

So it's like a rock and a hard place. Only 2 possibilities IMO - Max gets knocked out early (which has never happened) or Topuria loses a stand up decision (which has never happened.)

5 round fights are a huge difference from 3 round fights. 5 round fights require strategically pacing yourself.

Due to Topuria's inexperience fighting a high paced stand up fight for 5 rounds, I think the result will be a Max Holloway decision.
Guys like u who have zero info about fighter and zero knowledge about figthing in general SHOULD NOT talk about fighting

Topuria never went 5 rounds
U are idiot who has no info and talks like expert topuria went 5 rounds with emmett and won 50-42 decision with one 10-8 round and one 10-7 round now go fck urself and take out max's dick out of ur mouth

Today your boy gets destroyed dominated.

"Max never gets submitted"

"Max never gets knocked out"

Ilia is very capable of accomplishing both of these feats with relative ease.

What blinds people to Ilia's greatness?

Topuria's sub game has fallen off against UFC level opponents and he has never knocked out anyone known for having an iron chin. It would not be wise to go into this expecting that to happen against Max of all people. The most likely outcome is a decision.

So Max also has only 1 way to win.

Got it.

Wonder what the reactions would be if Max knowing that Topuria will point at the center, takes advantage of it, runs up and Askrens him.

Now Ilia's power is overrated lol.

I like Max and don't want to see him lose, but I feel this is a bad fight for him. Ilia is on another level.
