International Canadian Election Results Start to Come Through: 'The 51st State' Edition

You live in one of the most violent, crime ridden shitholes in the entire country. Maybe that's the issue?

Highest crime rate (by alot) of any city 1 million +. Orders of magnitude higher than Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal, etc.

Edmonton really is a hole in the ground. Putrid place full of sweatpants wearing, violent drunks.

Red Deer insanely high rates as well. #4 worst crime rate in any city over 75K in the entire country. Sounds like this is a central AB problem. You guys should really do something about your scumbag neighbors.

why is Edmonton such a shithole?

Little did PP know, his slogan “bring it home” was actually going to be about him slinking back to Alberta to run in an election he can actually win.

He had a projected super majority win. No matter how much you slice it, the campaign didn’t live up to expectations.
Seems to me Pierre lost because he didn't lie through his teeth and every opportunity like Carney did.

The Carney, strong leader who can save us from Trump narrative is already unraveling in the first week, it won't be long before Canadians realize he is Trudeau 2.0

Carney is continuing a tradition of Canadian Prime Ministers humiliating old man Trump.
Trump once again looked like a feeble old man. We need a young strong President, like Obama was. Trump gets told to his face to fuck off about 51st state Canada and all old man Trump can do is nod his head. Embarrassing. I dont know which is worse, what Carney did to him or Old Man Trump holding his wifes hand while she is trying to make out, with a younger taller man. I bet when Old Man Trump was napping during his meeting with Trudeau, Melania was giving the Canadian Chad, HJ's under the table.

remember what a fucken sort Melania was in her younger days before she had all the work done? I'd still absolutely knock the back end out of her but back then she was a serious fucken smokeshow and she looks pretty hot in that picture with Trudy. 7.5/10 would bang

lol @ BUT WHATABOUT TRUDEAU!!!
Hypocrite

Pierre's riding is an interesting story otf you haven't heard about it. It used to actually be 2 ridings, the other was very Liberal. In 2023 the two were merged.

Trudeau is gone. She's a sitting premier that tried to sell out the rest of the country to the Big Orange Turd and take a bunch of her friends on a junket at the taxpayer's expense.
Lol oh okay I see. That makes it a relevant response to a conversation that had less than nothing to do with her.

Sure, I admit it would have been better to post that in a different thread, or in its own new thread. I was just in a bit of a hurry. I know he's from Alberta so I took a chance to see if I'd get a response other than "but Trudeau".

Oh well.

Because it is full of young blue collar men who make more oil money than eastern bums can ever dream. That's why they leave their shit hole dreg provinces and move here by the thousands. Drugs and prostitution and crime thrive in such an environment, this is how It has always been tbh under Harper it was like that too. Now more dangerous drugs like fent and meth have really exasperated the situation. Also look at population demographics in the prairie provinces, how they differ from the rest of the country, and who happens to be significantly overrepresented, literally 10x the rate, in those province's prisons...

What you could imagine lkely depends a lot on what drugs you're on.

Leaving aside all this opining, how about we address the news today that when Danielle Smith went to Mar a Lago to suck Trump's weenis, she brought her buddies and cost the taxpayer $10,000 for a two day junket?
Albertans don't care. Maybe irrelevant emotional CBC watching boomers out east care about it, might think 10k is a lot of money, but rest assured in Alberta we are plenty happy with her visits down south. 10k to get in the room with the world's most powerful person to plead you case is very good value, even if you don't like him Andy. That's how you do business with the Trump admin. Alberta's oil industry only got slapped with a measly 10% tariff, a tax so low American refineries will gladly eat it. Meanwhile the auto industry is abandoning Ontario. Maybe Doug should have taken a trip down there too and his province wouldn't be facing an economic catastrophe...

She's also got Fox News routinely spending a portion of their day telling their massive audience about Alberta, telling them how important it is, telling them how it wants to separate... Not even a big fan of her in the past, but she's doing just fine right now.

Lived in Edmonton from 1988 to the present.

And this is all true.

So crazy. She should do nothing and let her province get destroyed!

But what would the piglets out East do without all those equalization payments? 😂

Which is who exactly?

If you lived here it would be so ridiculously obvious you wouldn't have to ask, as you are reminded almost every news hour. BC and Sask and Manitoba have really really rough communities as well, not just Alberta. As bad or even worse than Edmonton in many ways, as they are smaller so it feels extra close.

Look into it.

why is Edmonton such a shithole?
Excuse my interjection, but it is all relative.

Here's what google AI tells me:
Edmonton's homicide rate was 4.77 per 100,000 people, while the national average for Canada was 1.94. The homicide rate in the U.S. was 5.8 per 100,000 people in 2022.

Of the six cities in Canada with about 1M people or more, Edmonton will always be the worst for violent crime because of demographics. Edmonton is the gateway to northern Alberta and many native reserves, plus Edmonton has the most bleeding heart social programs in Alberta, such that offenders released early often have a probation condition to stay in Edmonton. Parts of rural Alberta have much worse violent crime than Edmonton and even nearby large cities (>100,000 people), Red Deer and Lethbridge, have worse violent crime.

The demographic pattern in Alberta is similar to what you find in neighboring states such as Montana. But whereas Canada has overall worse rural crime based on native demographics and the pattern of crime near native reserves is similar in the USA, the USA overall has worse urban crime because of the larger population of urban blacks.

I don't think these demographic factors are mostly genetic although there might be a genetic factor in native alcohol dependence. I think that historical conflict is a much bigger factor.

Of course, you're totally in favour of the premier trying to cut a separate deal at the expense of the rest of the country. No surprise. Nuff said.
