The Canadian economy grew by over 2% in Q4 2024, just before the Trump tarriffs. The economy had finally fully recovered from the pandemic. Trudeau's contribution to the rate of recovery is impossible to judge. I'm not surprised you want to lay it entirely at his feet, but you have no fucking clue any more than I do.There are only two countries on the face of the earth that did not receive reduced tariffs, Canada and China and that is because of retaliatory tariffs and refusal to come to the table.
Canada fucked itself with retaliatory tariffs that do fuck all to the American economy while having a bigger impact on our economy, even if in theory they were put forth to have maximum impact on the us and minimal impact on Canada. These tariffs hurt us much more than they did the US our trade with them his a massively larger percentage of our economy.
The first round of tariffs were introduced and would have been removed if we made commitments to strengthen our border, which we instead denied was even an issue. Look into Sam Coopers report on this for further clarification if you can I would highly suggest it.
We could have taken the same approach as Mexico, UK or Australia for example and saved ourselves much economic pain, but if we did that the Liberals would lose the standing up to to Trump narrative which without that they would have lost the election in a landslide defeat as they were projected to so do before this tariff situation occurred.
With regard to previous conservative governments, nearly all governments in Canada have had deficits, we had a streak of 27 of governments with deficits, the key differences are the scale and impact of these deficits. What is the money being spent on and is it spurring growth in the economy or hindering it ?
The Harper government had decent economic growth, while slower than the previous Liberal government it was still pretty good when you consider the financial crisis at the time and how most governments around the world did not experience the same levels of growth.
Over the last decade under the liberal deficits we have seen very little growth, the worst on record and when you have that for a decade that is very very bad, now you have a government who will double down on the same policies of reckless spending and stifling growth at every turn, except much more aggressively.
"The Harper government had decent economic growth, while slower than the previous Liberal government it was still pretty good when you consider the financial crisis at the time and how most governments around the world did not experience the same levels of growth."
So, you are a total troll who has no actual belief in anything you're saying, is that right? Otherwise, how can you post this and not give the same benefit of the doubt to Trudeau over the course of the pandemic?
Clown.
