Can anyone point to the fights I should watch which show Cereal Gone has the skillset to beat Aspinall definitively?

This is the worst possible thing that could happen to HW, in a lot of respects.

From a pure troll angle though, it would totally validate all of Jon's "he not worthy" talk about Aspinall, talk about chapped asses as a result. (Not my narrative, I'm just hypothesizing).
makes nganou look bad gane whooped nganous butt

but yeah every nganou fight where he looked like trash we have excuses

Some fatass from a bar can win a fight in the UFC, if he catches the guy flush. Anything can happen, especially at HW.

Ultimately, I think Gane was extremely tentative when he fought Jones. I would almost say scared, but I won't quite go that far. Damn close though. Ciryl said as much directly after the fight. He said he was healthy and "it was his mind" that let him down. If he comes out against Aspinall with that same mind set it won't matter, Tom should clean his clock for what would definitely be his last ever title shot. If Ciryl comes out committed and can survive the early rounds then who knows. I have no idea how Tom performs in later rounds or what happens if his early onslaught fails.

Gane's chances are basically surviving the first round and testing Aspinall 's gas tank. That's pretty much the only unanswered question about Aspinwall as a fighter. He only has three career fights that went past the 1st round and none that went past the 2nd. He lost two of those three fights, albeit they were very early in his career.

Gane's chances get better the longer the fight goes, we don't even know how Aspinall looks & makes adjustments in long fights.
Purely speculation. Just because we haven't seen Tom past 7 minutes doesn't mean he can't

Here you are. If its not clear Gane is more than capable of beating Aspinall, I don't know what to say.

I am at a loss on this one. It seems all aspects lean towards Aspinall
It's simple Tom is a striker ... Gane has better striking the hype is around Toms grappling background he's a BJJ black belt

It's not much different than guys like gaethje who
don't wrestle but are good wrestlers...

Will Tom get Gane to the ground.. will he try..

Tom will try to bang I think this is a fact and could get put away. Or pointed out.

Games grappling defense is sus as his grappling offence it's his big weakness

Gane hasn’t put out any top level lights stawp it lol. I said he can distance point fight a win out possibly. That’s about it

Gane has "better" striking by what metric? Tom knocking guys out too quickly? Gane getting dropped by Tuivasa?

its mma and hw so anything can happen.

it would just be hilarious if after waiting for jones for close to 2 years, he loses his first fight against someone jones destroyed.

Jones has the MMA gods on his side, so I wouldn't be surprised if this happens.
Salivating this would occur I just don’t see it

The only question you have to ask yourself is what happens if Aspie can't rugby tackle Gane to the ground in the first or second round and sub him?

What the hell would the fight look like if it goes past that?

Gane has done the five rounds. Aspinall has mostly done one round.

If rounds 3-5 plays out on the feet you'd be crazy to think Aspinall is still a shoo-in for the W.

I mean Ngannou could wrestlefuck Gane, I'm fairly sure Aspinall can do that easier, it's just a question of if he gets caught before it hits the deck.

Once Gane loses please give him Jailton so Jailton can absorb Gane's undeserved title shot magic and move up the rankings after he steamrolls Cyril

Watch the fight where Tom injured his knee. That’s how Gane could win.

Ganes got to 10 and 0 before losing to jones. His last 4 fights before Jon was
Derrick Lewis
Alexander Volkov
Jairzinho Rozenstruik
Junior dos Santos

Then look at Ganes 3 out of his last 4 fights. He beats Tai Tuivasa who was on a 5 fight win streak, he just knocked out Derrick Lewis before losing to Gane. Tom has never test himself against Tia.

He loses to Jon , then he fights a more skilled veteran in Serghei Spivac who Gane already beat and Tom beats years prior and he wins.

Then he fights and beats a more seasoned Alexander Volkov who Tom beat 3 years ago. Aexander was on a 4 fight win streak beating top guys until Gane beat him.

I'm curious on @Luffy assessment on this, I get Tom has the hype right now and UFC is all in being behind him , but facts gives Gane the edge.

Well, I think mostly based off their performances against similar opponents. Gane beat Volkov. Even accounting for the first fight as Gane was injured in the 2nd one, it still went to decision, and Volkov proved to be a challenge either way, as it wasn't totally one sided. Tom beat Volkov quickly exploring Volkov's lack of wrestling and lack of ground game. And Gane didn't seem to have gotten that better in the ground as his 2nd fight with Volkov showed a real bad taste from both when grappling, both being slow, conceding positions too easily, and their takedown being kinda too weak.

The striking I don't think Tom has the advantage but I don't think Gane has either. Gane is a very good striker but not elite like Alex Pereira, he's a good kickboxer but not on an elite level like an Alex Pereira who's one of the best strikers and the best in ufc in the upper weights imo. Gane has powerful punching I guess, but not much. Definitely not that KO artist or hard striker, puncher. Tom isn't a heavy puncher either but his speed can get less skilled strikers in HW quickly to the ground as he leverages his body and momentum to land with a very good timing, so Gane will need to be aware of that possible quick KO. But I think mostly the ground game though. I think the JJ that fought Gane was the last peak JJ we had, that JJ right there was motivated, coming off a 3 years training, had the support and belief of the fans (which motivates him), now I think ppl doubting he will ever fight makes him care less about having that real motivation... But that also exposed a little bit that Gane (and HWs in general) lacks that depth to defend himself so well... And Tom is an exception as it seems in that. Not as good as JJ ofc but he has skills that we don't see much in HW.

Tom seems less motivated than before tho, you'd see him, before, being more excited, calling everyone out. Now he appears more pragmatic, a little risk adverse and talking about his career being close to an ending, projecting 4 fights... So for some reason, maybe the standard fans put him on, and his inactivity, took a mental tax on him that he speaks about the fear of being beaten in front of crowds. That plays a lot too in what Tom from last year would perform, that aura of invincibility which he seems to lack now... he's half guessing more and way more reluctant... Projecting a wayyy shorter career than he would before.

Still tho, Gane hasn't been training seriously as we know of, he was making movies, showing a lack of interest like not even calling Tom openly to a fight, not saying anything, saying Volkov should have won... He doesn't seem committed to UFC, so I think Tom is more complete and is more eager to improve... Although I don't think it will be a blow out like first round and done, I guess that, since Gane has been very inactive too, Tom's overall better skillset in wrestling will overwhelm Gane. Maybe a Jon Jones vs Miocic scenario I think, I don't see Cyril Gane going to the championship rounds in all honesty... I see it as a round 2 or round 3 TKO or submission for Tom. Can be wrong ofc.

I believe Tom and JJ are pretty close still. I think Jones would win if they fight, but I believe it'd be a very tough fight, like a tough 48-47. I see JJ as a step ahead but I see Tom basically around the JJ that beat Stipe, and I think that's more or less how I think of Tom vs Gane... A round 3 TKO or so, mostly one sided. I think it's unlikely for Gane to win or for it to even go a decision.

However, I believe an elite LHW like Alex Pereira, with a fit 244 lbs with low fat mass and most muscles which he showed, with Alex to me being, when fresh, the pinnacle of current LHW (let's see tho vs Ankalaev 2) would have the edge vs Tom and any HW... I think Alex now might be the most dangerous fighter, ppl underrate LHWs, when actually, the new era isn't weak like ppl say, it's just getting better. Many ppl have a tendency to romanticize an old era when any top LHW nowadays like Jiri, Khalil Rountree, Ankalaev would imo take on the old era like Rampage , Lyoto very easily...

And Gus and DC too, I believe (ppl may disagree tho but I don't, I think Gus losing to Smith, JJ saying Thiago Santos was legit the strongest LHW he had faced speaks for a strong new era)... maybe not prime DC but I don't think prime DC would have an easy time either... I think Ankalaev and Pereira would make him #3. So accounting for JJ being slightly above Tom but very close, and Pereira being imo the current best LHW + having a HW natural shape without losing speed... That'd make him vs Tom tougher for Tom than JJ right now and surely than Cyril Gane, for sure. I think Pereira might be the only fighter capable of truly defeating JJ... I hope I'm wrong though as I wouldn't like to see Pereira beating JJ, I'd root for Jones even tho I'm Brazilian and a fan of Alex haha, but... Idk, I've a bad feeling, which is why I wish Jones or Alex fight Tom but I wouldn't like to see Alex vs JJ tbh...
