Californians

Hey, now. Sedona is pretty damned nice too, girl. ;)

Wow. This thread certainly got heated in spots, didn't it now? LOL.

Thankfully the native Arizonans that I've met over the past year haven't been at all like your angry friend. Although, to be honest, the vast majority of the people that I've met where I live are from out of state originally. And I'm happy about that if he's an example of what the natives are like.
S'okay. I was driving earlier and remembered him saying he was aggressive struck a memory from years ago with him jumping down my throat.

Well, the hell with him then. Honestly, I have no recollection of him before this thread.
I've only recalled him very recently. Years ago I mentioned that I cheated on my ex with his best friend. After explaining that I did it out of anger because he'd cheated on me to begin with and used me as a punching bag for 3 years then stalked me for a month and burned my house down he went apeshit at me for being unfaithful :D

This really is in jest, I'm very okay about it. Forgot about him till the posts today.

Wow. How did I know he'd be a misogynist as well as "aggressive"?

Best to forget about him all over again.

It really is all gravy. I know he has me pegged as some Californian "libtard" who should just stay here but fuck it. I intend to live wherever I choose to. I know you aren't foreign but you and mrs haven't stayed where you grew up and the US is huge so moving from one coast to the other like we've both done feels like moving abroad. Life's too short.

I think we could make fire breaks right now in a lot of areas. Turn those fire breaks into public dirt roads(fenced off on both sides) to keep stuff from growing back. You would have to pick and choose where to do it. Government land vs private land.

Also it would allow the Cal fire access to the fires more easily

Adequate roads are great because the majority of deaths from these kinds of fires are generally due to limited amount of exit roads and the traffic congestion of mass evacuations.

Using them as fire breaks won't help much though. Embers can can travel 20+ miles. Harsh reality about big fires is that there isn't much that can be done. Protect lives, protect as much property as you can and hope for rain.

It sure is.

And, of course, you're spot on. So, no worries. :)

It really is hoping for rain. I didn't know that such a place existed where you wouldn't get a single spot of rain for months upon months . English me, it's unfathomable.

What do you propose, mowing the wilderness? Many of the areas are too steep to get to. They grow fast in years with enough rain and dry out in drought years.
Actually why not cut down all the places where fires happen? If you're a conservationist then we could just relocate the wilderness to places less prone to fire.

Haha. Planning on Austin in the spring.

Make sure you vote for politicians who will bring higher taxes, more expensive energy, more regulations and open borders. Make sure they also make all petty crime legal, hire DA's who won't prosecute rioters or people who rob you.

You aren't doing it right if your streets aren't filled with human poop and needles within a decade. Remember, you left for a reason! To destroy Texas.

And once Texas is go e America falls. She is dead. So get to killing America.

That goes for all you Californians. You destroyed the greatest state in the union, now go bring down all of America!

Everyone should be miserable!

I'm not moving because of that either.

Didn't pge announce rolling blackouts last week? Could have sworn watching local news in Ventura they were saying you wouldn't get hit if the temp was 102° or higher , maybe yours was unrelated (ie power line down)

Silicon Valley’s housing prices are out of control right now. There will eventually be a market correction that fixes that. But there are plenty of places in California where housing is more affordable. Not to mention, if you are employed here, you make more money anyway. But people seem to think California is only LA, Silicon Valley, and SF. LA is shit, and it always has been. So I don’t understand why people are like “LA has turned into a shithole.” It has always been a shithole for the most part. A shithole with some really wealthy areas.
San Diego > LA

They announced it Friday before last as they cut us off. Literally as all our lights went off. We weren’t expecting it at all.
I know a lot of it with the lightning and humidity etc isn’t their fault but a bit of prior warning would be nice. Now we get texts saying they may have to cut us off intermittently between the hours of 3pm till 10pm until further notice.

All of this is fluff and waffle being I'm not Californian and not eligible to vote.

You may not be, my dear, but I am. LOL.

I may not be a liberal Californian moving to Texas but I'm the next best thing, a liberal, progressive New Yorker living in Arizona doing my best to flip it from red to blue. :D
I don't even know if I'm republican or liberal...I don't think I'm either. It's dependent on who spins the least bullshit I think. I always voted conservative in the UK but I would be sure as hell not thinking Trump and Pence are a good fit to run the country. Other than running it into the ground, obviously.

How long do you have before you can vote here? Two years?

No worries, they'll be long gone by then. :)

Besides, how'd you manage to get on so many individual's shitlists here when you haven't mentioned politics once?

Those types are always angry & looking to go on the attack, aren't they? To sometimes comical levels of vitriol. :p

Cuffs, if I could presume to venture a guess at your politics? I hope it doesn't bug you.

You're in favour of a womens right to get an abortion, from what I understand. You're very respectful and sympathetic towards transgendered people, you're in favour of women being free to have sex with whoever they want, judgement free. You seem to believe in hard work and individuals taking responsibility for their own lives, but on their own terms. For me that is someone who is more or less, socially liberal. You might have some conservative views here and there but your core value of ...openness to different kinds of people, is very liberal, in my eyes.

On the economic side, I know you went through cancer treatments. I'm not sure if those cost you money, but I do know that there is one side of the coin that wants the government to help people pay for their medical costs, and one side that wants that all to be covered by private insurance you could lose any time. You've lived in England and the USA so you're in a good position to judge which system you prefer, and depending on the answer to that, you can answer whether or not you're more economically liberal or economically conservative.

Feb 2020thankfully the waiting period started from when we filed for our green cards rather than when we got them. I thought till recently that you had to hand in your citizenship from your previous nationality but it isn't the case. If I wasn't born in a Brit military hospital in Germany I'd go for that too, lol.

It is funny. I admit since all the down time I have at work sometimes I have ventured a bit into the war room, it's funny seeing how rattled people get in there.

You have pretty much summed me up completely in this post. Hazy on the medical stuff though. I think it's pretty terrible here as well as the UK even though I'm not paying $1600 a month for us in the UK. It took 2 months from my first test to be operated on through a series of fuck ups, but when I put my foot down and told them to stop fannying around, things got moving.
The NHS with my mother was similar, my step dad's quite a gentle nice soul so I had to kind of take charge there a little bit with various hospitals but I do feel for the most part that people in the medical field are doing the best that they can. Do wish I wasn't still getting medical bills for something that happened a year ago. Why doesn't anyone send me happy letters?! The biopsies and screening cost more than the actual surgery. Insurance covered $60,000ish at least.

I think me voting conservative all the time had a lot to do with the British army and my mother being a staunch conservative.I guess you've made my mind up which way I'll be swinging in 2022.
