The cognitive dissonance that one must have to still defend that state after all the BS is staggering
That makes sense.
I always thought the benchmark would be New York State, I have much to learn apparently.
Lol most Americans don't want where they live to be like California, but if stepping over hobo shit makes you feel superior don't let me rain on your paradePeople from other states don’t like that California is considered the benchmark by which all other states are measured. But lately, it has been politically advantageous for republicans to fuel the hatred for California, and anti-California propaganda, so they can say “See? California is liberal and X is happening there because of their liberal leadership.” Forget the fact that many local governments in California are conservative. Or that some problems just occur regardless of which party is in power. And we have had plenty of Republican governors. They know their constituency won’t bother to delve into the details.
So naturally, sherdoggers have eaten it up. And it makes them feel better about the inferiority complex they have due to being from Sister Fucker, Alabama or whatever town they’re from.
And I work for a massive IT company in Silicon Valley, I should have known really haha. When it comes to things like environmental policies, technology, and culture, California is usually the trend setter. People don’t like that.
Probably. What’s San Jose like these days? I haven’t been there in like 10 years. And that was just briefly for work. I haven’t actually really visited the place in probably 18 years. And I work for a massive IT company in Silicon Valley, I should have known really haha.
Not much fun at the moment with Covid and much of it being closed down, I miss my mates and my breweries!Probably. What’s San Jose like these days? I haven’t been there in like 10 years. And that was just briefly for work. I haven’t actually really visited the place in probably 18 years.

Some of it is a bit rough and over populated, lots of homelessness but I'm lucky enough to have moved to a nice area and walking distance to a lot of dining with patios if I do want to go out. Where in the country are you?
Ooooh Aftershock Festival on your doorstep, Fieldwork Brewery does some of my favourite beers and the patio is nice, and this place is wicked. Mental good pizza and a revolving beer list: https://federalistpublichouse.com/ Cool that it's in a shipping container.Sacramento
I know what Aftershock is. But I haven’t heard of any of that other shit. Keep in mind, I’ve been married for like 10 years. My wife and I don’t go out drinking like we used to. Plus, we used to live close enough to downtown that we could just hop in a cab and go out. Now, we’re a bit further away. That shit isn’t happening.Ooooh Aftershock Festival on your doorstep, Fieldwork Brewery does some of my favourite beers and the patio is nice, and this place is wicked. Nice place, Sacramento.
We've been together for 20 years but still enjoy a snobby beer in Sacramento if we're away for a weekend. It's how we met a bunch of our friends when we moved to San Jose thankfully.I know what Aftershock is. But I haven’t heard of any of that other shit. Pure nonsense. The bulk of leadership decisions in California have been getting made by liberals for a long time now. They own the festering mess that California has become. Makes me sad, but democrats have absolutely ruined an amazing place. And trust me, nobody has an inferiority complex about California. The days of people aspiring to live in California are long gone.People from other states don’t like that California is considered the benchmark by which all other states are measured. Thanks for making my point.Pure nonsense. The bulk of leadership decisions in California have been getting made by liberals for a long time now. It is absolutely insane. My parents moved from Michigan to South Carolina recently and while they love low taxes, they hate the politicians there.Sad. New York hippies did the same thing to Vermont years ago, while Massachusetts dems are poisoning NH now. One of the strangest phenomenons is blue staters fleeing to red states and then turning them into the same places they fled. Mental disorder.

Sacramento
Nice place, Sacramento.
Yeah, Bakersfield is pretty much a shithole. Sacramento isn’t San Diego or anything, but I like it. I grew up there though. But other than San Diego, and maybe Long Beach, I don’t like SoCal much at all.My sister in law & her husband almost moved to "The Big Tomato" a couple of years ago when they left Orange but she chose to take the teaching job in Bakersfield instead of the one in Sacramento. Don't ask me why.
Not that I've been to either place, but Jana has & she says that Sacramento is much the better of those two cities.
I've only been to LA, Anaheim, Irvine, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach & Orange. I enjoyed myself in each place but my least favorite was probably Anaheim. I only really saw the Honda Center & Jana's grandmother's house though. Which is like two houses away from where Gwen Stafani grew up. In fact, Jana can remember riding her bike by her house & seeing & hearing No Doubt practicing in Stefani's garage all the time when she was little.
Not in Santa Cruz but it wasn’t quite as hot here because of the ocean (still hot af though)Any of you have a power shut down last night?
We didn't have a warning but PG&E shut down parts of San Jose last night for an hour. It was 104f in Mountain View last night when I stopped for groceries, mental.

Yeah it is cooler with you there, and where I work in Sunnyvale. Mate in Livermore is hitting 109 today. He's an outdoor electrician climbing scaffold polls all day, thankful he has labor day off today. Not in Santa Cruz but it wasn’t quite as hot here because of the ocean (still hot af though)

A teacher’s salary will go much further in Bakersfield though.
