Californians

Hey, now. Sedona is pretty damned nice too, girl. ;)

Wow. This thread certainly got heated in spots, didn't it now? LOL.

Thankfully the native Arizonans that I've met over the past year haven't been at all like your angry friend. Although, to be honest, the vast majority of the people that I've met where I live are from out of state originally. And I'm happy about that if he's an example of what the natives are like.

I needed a new place to live. I visited Arizona, Oregon, Nevada, and Idaho. They all had one thing in common.

Hatred for Californians.

I'm out! Free from CA. It has been liberating.

That's awesome.

The biggest pro music expo in the world is in Anaheim (not next year obviously) so I'm like a kid in a candy shop for a few days when I go. The hotels and conference centre are packed out with metallers , so I'm in and amongst like minded people and get to chat about stuff we share common ground with for ages. Apart from that it doesn't have a great deal of character though.

Been to Bakersfield a couple of times. 2002 I went to see Korn and Disturbed because at the time Korn were my favourite band and it's their home town but then not particularly nice. Fantastic time staying on the drive back from Vegas a couple of years ago though.

Oh, that's right. We were just discussing the expo a couple of weeks ago, huh? I'll bet my son, Nigel will be going to it in 2022 assuming that things are back in motion in the industry by then. Let's hope so, yeah?

Speaking of Nigel, I was worried about him when the federally boosted unemployment benefits ended because he'd just moved to Nashville & I was concerned about him being broke in a new city. But, as it turns out, he's been hustling a lot of work pretty much non-stop for a month or two now. But, unfortunately, he's had to go to offbeat, dangerous places in order to do so. Like the rock shows that they did in Sturgis a while back. He did all the lighting for the acts that played there. Which, under normal conditions would have been cool. But with COVID-19 running rampant I was really worried about him. He came out of it fine though, thank goodness.

Speaking of music festivals, did I ever tell you that my original trip to California back in 2017 wasn't supposed to meet Jana.? I was actually going to go there in August of that year to attend Camp Mars. Which is a weekend-long concert/fan gathering held by one of my favorite bands, Thirty Seconds To Mars. But then I met Jana on Facebook in that UFC discussion group & all my plans changed. I canceled my reservation at Camp Mars & I changed my trip date to October. And the rest is history.

Ooooh Aftershock Festival on your doorstep, Fieldwork Brewery does some of my favourite beers and the patio is nice, and this place is wicked. Mental good pizza and a revolving beer list: https://federalistpublichouse.com/ Cool that it's in a shipping container.
Nice place, Sacramento.

My sister lives in Sacramento. The federalist is legit, I would go there quite a bit. Fieldwork probably has the most consistent great tasting beers to me. I live in Berkeley, not too far from the taproom there

That city survives on music and considering we aren't supposed to be congregating at bars to watch live acts I can see why you had cause for concern.

That's wicked :) And I know that you and Jana are besotted with each other so sort of meeting through MMA and us being tight is lovely.
Eamon worked with Jared Leto on a Hugo Boss fragrance shoot for a day in Paris and said he was a prat, but then Dallas Buyers Club came out and I completely forgave him for his diva behaviour because he was brilliant. And aside from potentially snapping him in half I really wouldn't kick him out of bed for singing The Kill to me. I liked 3STM.

Where did you end up moving to?

Idaho. 22 houses on my street. 16 are from California. Four from Oregon. Two from Washington.

Sooo, surrounded by Californians. I see endless Sf Giant flags and Dodger flags and Raider gear. Atrocious.

Huh? I've met Leto twice & he was really cool on both occasions. The first time was after a Mars show in Toronto in 2013 & then the second time was before a Mars show in Buffalo about a year later. But then I've heard from people like Eamon that have met him while he's working & they've said that he was really intense & standoffish. So, I guess it all depends on when you catch him. According to Nigel, he's had conversations with a couple of guys who've been roadies & techs for Mars & they told him that Leto is odd like that. He can be really cool & affable in the off hours but then when it's showtime he's a bit of a prick & a perfectionist.

I liked Mars when they first hit it big with their second album in 2006 but I didn't become a huge fan until 2013. That was just after my first wife & I split up for good. And Leto's lyrics really began to resonate with me like they hadn't before & the band's music got me through a really tough time.

As for Jana & I, yeah, I never expected to meet someone online. It was the last thing on my mind actually. But once we began chatting we couldn't stop & soon every free moment we had was spent either on FB Messenger, on the phone, or face-timing. We did that for five months before we finally were able to coordinate our schedules so that we were free to spend ten days together that October. After that, she gave her notice at work & she traveled across the country that December. She moved in with me on Christmas eve.

Oh, man what a beautiful first Christmas being you were living together for the first time the day before.

I'm not mad crazy about 30 Seconds, but I do like them. He was very snooty, when they weren't shooting he was behind a screen like the great unwashed staff couldn't approach him without permission. Paltrow was the same in Eamon's experience shooting another Hugo Boss fragrance with her, and I thought she would be okay. I was kind of surprised.
Rhianna was flippin brilliant though, a real sweetheart lovely nice woman and funny as fuck taking the piss out of his accent.

If you have to spend a whole day together, then be pleasant. You all have a job to do, and you know I wouldn't be with some dickhead. He was polite and professional about it all with both of them.

No, I refuted your point.
By saying all the things I said people like you said. In case you forgot, Pete Wilson and Arnold Schwarzenegger we’re both Republicans. There are numerous rural counties and cities all with conservative leadership in California too. There is plenty of Democratic leadership here too. And California is doing just fine.

Schwarzenegger was mostly a RINO and also had to deal with dems controlling most everything else and thwarting any common sense decisions he did try. There might be some rural towns being by conservatives but their influence over how the state is a run as a whole is obviously minor. To suggest that they play a majpr role in the problems faced by the state is, at best, disingenuous. It's a democrat controlled state.

To your point about me proving your point, sorry, but no. I quoted facts and your decision to interpret them as something else is not based on anything I said or anything I think. There is a reason that more people are leaving California in recent years, and it isn't because they are somehow jealous of people living in California!

P.S. Your statement that "California is doing just fine" isn't based on reality, as it clearly is not!

We're leaving because we can get a fuck load bang for our buck property wise elsewhere. It has got completely out of hand here.

Saw this article on yahoo news
California is a failed state. How do we know? They're moving to Arizona in droves.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons people cite for leaving. Others include the highest marginal tax rate in the country, the least business-friendly climate in the country, and high rates of crime and homelessness.

I quoted facts

No, I posted facts. You quoted some shit you read on Alex Jones’s website or whatever. But thanks for unwittingly admitting it was a copy and paste. And you wouldn’t have to admit it because I have read all that same bullshit verbatim a million times, written on various media, before. Which is how I was so easily able to predict exactly what you were going to say (see my original post).

Here’s the difference: Pete Wilson and Arnold Schwarzenegger were republican governors of California. That is a fact. You simply posited subjective statements about just how conservative you think they are and how much influence you think local conservative governments in California actually have. Those are not facts.

Do you even live in California? How long? Where?

I will miss my mates and the weather for sure, but a lovely house with land and a pool in Austin compared to here we'll save 1.2 million. I can maybe finally get a proper night's sleep.

I don't live in California, and hopefully never will. California is a one party state, and has been for a decade. Democrats own it's problems. That is a fact. Denying that makes you look either foolish or dishonest.

California has the highest marginal tax rate in America and is the least business friendly states and has massive crime rates. Those are three reasons out of many that productive people are leaving. Democrats have turned the state into a shithole.

No need to be upset by me, I'm just pointing out facts.

Don't embarrass yourself. We live in an age of modern communications and information is capable of crossing state lines! I don't have to live in California to know about the tax rates, business regulations, property prices, crime rates, and who the elected officials are.
