Cain Velasquez Trial for Attempted Murder Expected to Begin in January

After multiple delays, there is a tentative timeline in place to begin Cain Velasquez’s trial for attempted murder.

During a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday at Santa Clara County (Calif.) Hall of Justice, Judge Daniel T. Nishagaya extended the trial setting date to Dec. 6. This was done on the condition that a trial date would be set for sometime in January at the next hearing.

“I am willing to give this another setting date with the understanding that I will be intending to set a trial date in the middle to later part of January on Dec. 6,” Nishagaya told the defense and prosecution.

The trial setting date has been extended multiple times since January. The former UFC heavyweight champion was not in attendance on Wednesday.

Velasquez is facing attempted murder and other charges after allegedy chasing and shooting at Harry Goularte, who has been accused of molesting Velasquez’s young son. During a high-speed chase, Velasquez fired at the vehicle containing Goularte and allegedly hit and injured his stepfather, Paul Bender. Velasquez has pleaded not guilty to the charges. If found guilty, he faces 20 years to life in prison.

Velasquez was released on released on $1 million bail in November after spending eight months in a holding facility. He remains under GPS surveillance and cannot leave his home without the court’s permission.

I don't expect a jury to convict Cain, even in California. He went about it the wrong way but I would feel much safer living next to Cain then Goularte, his mother and stepfather. California is notoriously lenient on child predators of all kinds (child porn, child sex abuse etc..).

Sad. The guys step father is probably not guilty and he got shot. I don't see Cain getting a innocent verdict. I hope the punishment is not too harsh. Really unfortunate situation. He is a father.

Ok still I'm sure you can't legaly justify the shooting because his step father wasn't careful enough that his wifes son molested kids at his venue. Maybe it's his karma he got shot. F U s no sympathy.

In a perfect world, he would be set free. What Cain did was honorable. Ask the judge: what if it was your kid?

Nah sorry in no perfect world is ok to endanger the lives of completely innocent people to enact your vengeance. He should do some time for how reckless he chose to be. If he had just beaten the guy into a puddle with no one else around then maybe we could talk. But not the way he went about it. He shot someone who wasn’t even the guy he was trying to kill.

Pretty easy to make claims like this when never overtook by such emotions. You don't know what went through his head, most of us don't know how it feels. How can you judge someone that was clearly overemotional because his son got f* raped and ask for rationality? Calling him a dumbass and asking to make a calculated move to corner the guy in a dark alley and beat him clearly shows you can't relate..

But it's premeditated, not purely reactive.

We all 100% understand what Cain did. Any parent does. However, Cain is not the Judge, Jury nor Executioner although most of us in this case wish he was. The poor guy heard molested and 100 times then lost his shit, reasoning at that time went completely out the window. Poor guy hopefully he gets time served and the gets arrested and tried as well, gen pop should sort a guy like that out.

It's very simple. Cain is innocent until proven guilty, and he also can't be blamed because the other guy is guilty. See, no logical loopholes whatsoever

Regardless of whether their son is a phile or not, he deserves due process. Cain opening a high speed chase and shooting is wrong and he will be punished.

Perhaps there may be info Cain has regarding his child’s situation that we here at sherdog don’t know yet. He may be under the impression that the alleged parents are well aware of what transpires under their roof.

He found out about it.
Went to the police.
Filed a police report.
Took his kid in to talk to the police.
Waited for him to be arrested.
Waited for him to get out of jail.
Waited for the guys parents to leave their house to go pick him up.
Followed them after they picked him up.
Began chasing him.
Started shooting at him.


He wasn't blinded by rage, he didn't have a sudden outburst of emotion. He came up with a plan, and carried it out. He made a calculated move, it was just a stupid one.

The problem is, is that it shouldn't be legal to do what Cain did, because order can't survive in a society with vigilante-ism.
