Cain Velasquez is Mexican/isn't Mexican Thread ***Threads Merged***

Cain IS Mexican because:

- He likely has Mexican citizenship

I am pretty sure he does NOT have Mexican citizenship. he is all talk and show-off for his homeboys. but they dont ask for no passport.

He is Mexican to me. With his strong Mexican roots, if he chooses to proudly represent his heritage, even though he was born in the U.S., then people should let it be. Werdum showed very little tact in his comments. You don't breach the subject of nationality. It is just in poor taste.

This whole thing is stupid. Who cares what country he was spit out in. Leave the man to represent his roots.

representing a heritage when you exhibit none of the traits of the aforementioned heritage is ridiculous at the very least, and stupid depending on how far you go in representing.
and no, having some blood of the people who have the same heritage doesnt count. when one speaks of heritage, rarely do they speak of all the offpsrings.

starting at the 0:28 mark

Amazing, they are actually embracing Cain as a representative for Mexico. That's some great PR job by the UFC

I'm baffled that people are arguing over whether Cain is Mexican or American. In this country, since we have a large population of citizens who either came from other countries or whose parents immigrated here from other countries, we have traditionally identified them by using their or their parents original country of origin followed by a hyphen and then the word "American." People who came from Ireland or whose parents came from Ireland were called "Irish-Americans", people with Italian heritage were called "Italian-Americans" and people with African heritage are called "African-Americans." Cain is a Mexican-American, and there is no legitimate argument to claim he is otherwise.

Edit: To people saying that Cain only referred to himself as Mexican...well Dana White recently in an interview referred to himself as "Irish" and to Lorenzo as "Italian" and no one seemed to get offended. Why the double standard?

LOL @ Cain riling up the crowd when he starts hearing the "Mexico" chants. Seriously, though, does this guy have ANY pride in the USA?

wwe does this too, they're called plants

Not sure but this must be in Mexico as it looks like their are several hundred Mexicans cheering him on watching...

Thats a shit ton of "plants" the UFC had to pay for....

....how people are so befuddled by people who are citizens of one country but still proud of their heritage is beyond me.

you do realize plants are put there to start chants, right? you don't need thousands of people to start a chant, just 1 person. then, like someone else said, people just blindly follow

Well Tito reps Mexico and America and nobody says a bad thing about it

Befuddled or just plain bitter. Either way, it's a non-issue...or should be.

Why does this rustle so many people? Cain isn't a criminal, and he pays his taxes. You're welcome.

Idk but why don't more people just call themselves Americans?!

Some Sherdog Americans are far too easily rustled by a dude showing pride in his ethnic roots.

Get some perspective.

Just a marketing ploy.

Mexican > Mexican-American.

In the UFC's mind. They try to play up Cain's, non-existant/limited, Mexican roots. Hoping they can get the Mexican market with a Mexican-American? Just change it to Mexican and we(the UFC) will hit gold.

with Cain, he wants people to forget the 'American' part

In the UFC Countdown they call Cain Mexican-American.
