Cain Velasquez is Mexican/isn't Mexican Thread ***Threads Merged***

If he identifies with Mexico more than America, why does he continue to live in the US? He has the money to move.

Your ignorant. So people that serve in the American military but identify themselves as mexican because of their roots, should move back to mexico? You sound like a racist.

Why isn't he proud of the opportunities and wealth that America has bestowed on him.

Are we human?

He wasn't born in mexico, he's never lived in mexico, he does not exhibit any mexican cultural traits (language, music, art, etc).

Raised in a border town near mexico, parents are mexicans, went to mexico all the time.

As for cultural traits

Language:

He speaks spanish, not good but he knows it

Music:

He likes mexican music

Art

the tatoos he has use the mexican tatoo art style.

Cain is mexican

No, he's right on the money.

If you're born, raised, educated and employed in America and while enjoying the benefits of American citizenship and STILL feel more strongly connected to another country please get the fuck out.

Head on back to Mexico and see if anybody there will consider you Mexican. Oh, I'll just help you out - they won't.

My wife is of Mexican descent (and is actually brown, unlike brown pride Cain) and when she's traveled to Mexico on business nobody considered her Mexican.

I've also had a friend head back to Ghana to get in touch with her roots. Nobody there considered her African or even African-American. She was American or black American to them.

And the whole hyphenated name bullshit has just got to end. I can't imagine my daughter walking around telling people she's a Scottish-German-French-Cherokee-Mexican-American.

Political Correctness has dumbed us down to this.

Do most Mexico inhabitants generally submit to some "Brown Pride" philosophy?

Honestly, just asking?

I am aware of many different "cultures" within Mexico, and some of them in the southern portion of Mexico near Central America have darker complexions.

I have just never honestly heard any citizen of Mexico being seriously "vocal" or demonstrative of this philosophy.

To be 100% honest, in the 1000's of US residents with Mexican heritage that I have come into contact with never registered to me as "Brown".

Is Cuba also considered "Brown People"? Maybe Mir and Conseco should have also sported "Brown Pride" tats!

The whole brown pride thing is from a past generation. Back when the early chicanos faced discrimination. These days though where mexicans are the majority or a big population in most of the southwest the terms are rarely used anymore and many dont claim the chicano name either. If you ask them most just consider themselves mexican or mexican-american.

He is american. His citizenship states this. Nationality is more important than heritage despite what some will say. Who the fuck cares what random piece of land you were born into. That's not important. What is important is to represent the country that you reside in. Or gtfo. Find it very disrespectful for Cain to say he is Mexican, while shitting on America that gave him everything he has, when he hasn't had the upbringing of a Mexican. Yes his one parent is Mexican and crossed the border illegally( obviously his parent crossed the border for better pastures). His "Mexican heritage" is watered down cause he went to school in America and had a American upbringing. He knows nothing of the Mexican culture as he wasn't raised there

When you claim to be Mexican or any other nationality you better know the language for starters.

Show me one example of Cain shitting on America. I'll wait

He was born in the West indies before the USA was a place, then had a founding influence on the creation of USA. If you are creating a new identity based on your personal values, then it's pretty reasonable to claim that identity.

Regardless, Nevis is in the Americas, so he can still be called American

Pretty shit example overall.

American by nationality means citizen of the United States. American by geographical location can mean other things, but overall most people accept "American" as meaning "citizen of the United States."

After the founding fathers or whoever wrote the rules of presidential eligibility, there was a United States. Not when Hamilton or any of the other founding fathers were born, but at the time it applied to anyone born in the 13 American colonies.

Hamilton was as American as any of the other founding fathers. My counterargument was only that birthplace means little when determining whether someone is or isn't _____________-an/ese

1) American Citizenship - No Mexican Citizenship

2) Born in the USA

3) Lived entire life in USA. Is raising his children there.

4) Learned to Wrestle in the USA. Trained MMA in the USA.

5) Speaks relatively poor Spanish with an American accent

6) In the USA most people identify/describe themselves according to their heritage out of respect. Especially first generation Americans. My parents were born in Portugal. I identify as Portuguese but I'm American whether I like it or not. He's not saying he's not American.

Brown pride? Is that pride in being the color brown? Or is it being proud of his Mexican heritage? There are a lot of different brown people all over the world. I'm confused.

I'm gonna go ahead and give you a serious reply, the term brown pride was made popular by Mexican Americans in the civil rights era due to the injustice and discrimination they felt in that era. It was their version of black power. So you won't see any other culture claim that term, not even Mexican nationals because that is Mexican-American thing. I'm guessing around the 80's was when the mex American gang culture (cholos) made it popular to tattoo it. To be fair, I knew a couple of guys I grew up with that got that tattoo but they weren't gangsters but 9 times out of 10 people will assume that.

So short answer would be yes, its ust showing pride in Mexican heritage but is specifically used by mex-Americans to basically show they haven't forgot their roots.

Yet his parents left Mexico. He was born in America, he was educated in America, lives in America, and makes all his money from an American company.

If Mexico is something to be proud of then this all seems odd.

It's really very simple

Richard Dawkins isn't English because he was born in Kenya. How dare he call himself English. Stupid African.

Try to make them as short as possible. I'll get us started by listing both why some people might think he IS or ISN'T:

Cain IS Mexican because:

- He likely has Mexican citizenship

- He was raised by two Mexican immigrant parents, so his upbringing, at home at least, was very Mexican

Cain ISN'T Mexican because:

- He was born (less importantly) and grew up (more importantly) in the United States, making him culturally American in many ways

- He lives year-round in the United States

- Though he does have a very good command of the Spanish language, he does not speak the language like a native speaker, like any "real Mexican" would

Thoughts?

He doesn't have Mexican citizenship. He never went through the necessary process to become a Mexican citizen (or a dual citizen)

He is a US citizen whose heritage is Mexican. He is not a Mexican though.
