Cain Velasquez is Mexican/isn't Mexican Thread ***Threads Merged***

Cain is American with proud Mexican roots. Normal. Go look in the mirror and wonder why you're proud of your roots.
I bet that half of the people on this forum are proud Irish come St.Paddy's...

Alexander Hamilton wasn't born in the United States.

He was born in the West indies before the USA was a place, then had a founding influence on the creation of USA. If you are creating a new identity based on your personal values, then it's pretty reasonable to claim that identity.

Regardless, Nevis is in the Americas, so he can still be called American

Pretty shit example overall.

He is Mexican to me. With his strong Mexican roots, if he chooses to proudly represent his heritage, even though he was born in the U.S., then people should let it be. Werdum showed very little tact in his comments. You don't breach the subject of nationality. It is just in poor taste.

This whole thing is stupid. Who cares what country he was spit out in. Leave the man to represent his roots.

You know what else is in poor taste? Trying to concuss someone else. Hell, prizefighting in general is not the most tasteful thing.

Nationality and patriotism is a huge part of prizefighting, and always has been. All of the biggest fights ever had to do with identity and not just fighting skills. Werdum is just doing his job.

I think you hit on something.. most people who have a different ethnicity who are "american" may be proud to have Italian, Irish, German etc roots.. but they're allegiance is with America. With Cain he has the vibe that CA is still part of Mexico.

I say that jokingly cause personally I can care less.. He just gives that vibe of identifying with Mexico as his home even though he wasn't born or raised there.. Which is cool--but recognize the great opportunity the US has given him as well.

A few years ago, ppl on here were accusing Cain of being racist and a member of a Mexican gang, because of his tat. Says it all really.

Unless you're Irish or Russian, sherdogers hate when you show pride in your heritage. They hate brazillians too, judging from all the jokes. Remember the blackzillians hoopla? Lol

Try to make them as short as possible. I'll get us started by listing both why some people might think he IS or ISN'T:

Cain IS Mexican because:

- He likely has Mexican citizenship

- He was raised by two Mexican immigrant parents, so his upbringing, at home at least, was very Mexican

Cain ISN'T Mexican because:

- He was born (less importantly) and grew up (more importantly) in the United States, making him culturally American in many ways

- He lives year-round in the United States

- Though he does have a very good command of the Spanish language, he does not speak the language like a native speaker, like any "real Mexican" would

Thoughts?
More importantly Cain is a Sun Devil... by choice

Blood quantum was invented to divide my people, make us fight eachother so we would be easier to conquer.

It is used today almost entirely by racist white fks who use nationality and the forced mixing of my people as excuse to justify white impirialism in MY home.

Im a member of the american indian movement.
I see and deal with crap you mofos will never even hear about daily.

Its hurtful to me personally cause after all these years you still wont listen to us.
Cause what we say doesnt benefit you.

I see entitled white kids rocking warbonnets, i got white boys telling me their grandma was a generekee princess everytime im in public.

"Im so proud of my Ndn blood"
But none wanna hear what we have to say.
Like children avoiding their punishment.
Were only wanted for novelty.
And yet many of you think your better.
Who is ready to give up their land?
Crickets.........

:icon_lol: salty bro? which casino u work for?

Why Cain is not Mexican:

1) He was born and raised in America
2) He has no citizenship to Mexico
3) Culturally hee is Americam and has no notion of Mexican life
4) His Spanish is horrific
5) The Brazilian guy he's fighting speaks better Spanish

Cain is 100% American. If speaking crap Spanish makes him Mexican, it also makes him a cow since can simulate the "moooo" sound as well.,

only reason that matters:
uses his US passport to travel to and from Mexico.

It's pretty common in the Hispanic community. Although the skin color brown can associate with any brown skinned person, "Brown Pride" is more associated with Mexican's or Hispanic's in the Latino community. My brothers and I we're born in the U.S, and I myself associate my self as American, but my oldest brother got Brown Pride tattooed on his arm, which was funny cause we are some of the whitest skinned Mexican's ever. As for Cain being pushed as the first Mexican HW Champ, is all promotion. Ricco Rodriguez was the first, but since he was also half Puerto Rican, it would make sense to promote Cain as the first by default. Mexican's don't like half breeds. They cause us to become confused and angry.

I don't really give a fuck at all and I think these threads are beyond fucking stupid but if I got a "Soviet Pride" tattoo, carried around a Russian flag and identified as Russian, does that make it true?

From now on I will identify myself as an ancient Roman. If I will ever be a ufc champ, I will be the first ancient Roman champ in the history of the org.
I also have some Roman tatts, so I'm set.

This.

TS,
Cain was born in America, raised in America, educated in America, and works in America. He speaks Spanish poorly and with a thick gringo accent.

Also, I believe his mother was born in the USA as well and only his father is a Mexican national who immigrated.

Regardless, he doesn't have Mexican citizenship and wasn't born there.

Regarding why this is such a big deal to people:
1- There is currently a BIG problem in the USA with illegal immigration so all topics related to Mexico are more intense.
2- Cain, the American, wears a Mexican flag to the octagon with a Mexican flag mouthpiece and plays up his Mexican roots excessively.
3- Most Americans would expect someone whose family moved here because it was so much better than where they came from would at least show some appreciation for the opportunities they enjoy by being an American citizen.
4- His stupid brown pride tattoo is in English (wtf?) and he's so pale it'd be a stretch to consider him beige.

This is probably where most immigrants of European descent differ from most immigrants of Latino descent. It's a difference pronounced enough to have come up repeatedly from Carlos Mencia's show to that stupid boxing movie Adam Carolla did.

I'm sure Scotland and Germany have their strong points, but they aren't America and America is better.

None of my Mexican friends will say the same. Even though their families fled an incredibly violent, corrupt, poverty stricken (for many) country to come here where they are doing quite well for themselves.

I live in an area heavily populated by people from Latin America, and I've never heard any of them talk about being brown. The only people I ever heard talk about their brownness with pride were the Indian kids in college.

is he american because he was born there or because he grew up there?

He is american. His citizenship states this. Nationality is more important than heritage despite what some will say. Who the fuck cares what random piece of land you were born into. That's not important. What is important is to represent the country that you reside in. Or gtfo. Find it very disrespectful for Cain to say he is Mexican, while shitting on America that gave him everything he has, when he hasn't had the upbringing of a Mexican. Yes his one parent is Mexican and crossed the border illegally( obviously his parent crossed the border for better pastures). His "Mexican heritage" is watered down cause he went to school in America and had a American upbringing. He knows nothing of the Mexican culture as he wasn't raised there

When you claim to be Mexican or any other nationality you better know the language for starters.
