Cain Velasquez is Mexican/isn't Mexican Thread ***Threads Merged***

Aw jeez, who really cares this much? I just want to see good fights.

He's an American who thinks he's Mexican. He's a second generation Immigrant and they often have identity issues. His parents and home life were different than the world that he grew up in. It left him a bit insecure as it often does to second generation immigrants.

Try to make them as short as possible. I'll get us started by listing both why some people might think he IS or ISN'T:

Cain IS Mexican because:

- He likely has Mexican citizenship

- He was raised by two Mexican immigrant parents, so his upbringing, at home at least, was very Mexican

Cain ISN'T Mexican because:

- He was born (less importantly) and grew up (more importantly) in the United States, making him culturally American in many ways

- He lives year-round in the United States

- Though he does have a very good command of the Spanish language, he does not speak the language like a native speaker, like any "real Mexican" would

Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure his mother is from America, his father met her here when he came over

- He's had the "Brown Pride" tattoo before he was even in the UFC so squash your "Cains only Mexican for marketing purposes" theory.

- Cain identifies himself as Mexican.

- CHALLENGE: FIND ME A PICTURE OF CAIN HOLDING AN AMERICAN FLAG

NUFF SAID:cool:

First?

F that BULL-S!

He was NOT the F'ing first Mexican UFC HW champion regardless of what you or he feel.

REGARDLESS!

REGARDLESS!!!!!

F U, Mark Coleman feels Mexican, and he WAS the first UFC champion BEFORE CAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That not STUPID enough for you.

The dude that kicked Coleman in the head hard enough to allowed him to understand that he was an American (Pete "El Duro" Williams) also hast claim to Mexican UFC HW champion BEFORE CAIN!

FFS, Disrespectful newbie UFC TUF jerk fans. I know this predates you, but Ricco "El Suave" Rodriguez could claim "FIRST" WAY before Cain.

It is a joke that make Cain look foolish however you try to defend this F-tarded UFC hype.

He's talking about his heritage when he says hes Mexican. It's very common in the US.

I was raised by immigrants (Portuguese parents) who know little English with heavy Portuguese culture at home. I'm still American. Most American's are very proud of their heritage like me and Cain. We're still American. If people ask me what I am I say Portuguese. It's so simple.

That's what Americans do.

People don't seem to understand this...

My thought is you are trolling.....what the hell difference does it make if he is or is NOT a Mexican...? He is the HW Champion, he is a great fighter....what does his color, nationality, religion, sexual preference, IQ, educational level, or sperm count have to do with anything....? End this stupid ass thread!

he is mexican, his parents are 100 % mexican which makes him mexican.....enough of this ignorant shit

It was mentioned by Werdum recently and was the source of some controversy between the two fighters.

This is an MMA forum, where people discuss all things MMA-related, no matter how petty you think they might be.

Blood quantum was invented to divide my people, make us fight eachother so we would be easier to conquer.

It is used today almost entirely by racist white fks who use nationality and the forced mixing of my people as excuse to justify white impirialism in MY home.

Im a member of the american indian movement.
I see and deal with crap you mofos will never even hear about daily.

Its hurtful to me personally cause after all these years you still wont listen to us.
Cause what we say doesnt benefit you.

I see entitled white kids rocking warbonnets, i got white boys telling me their grandma was a generekee princess everytime im in public.

"Im so proud of my Ndn blood"
But none wanna hear what we have to say.
Like children avoiding their punishment.
Were only wanted for novelty.
And yet many of you think your better.
Who is ready to give up their land?
Crickets.........

the way i determine this, is to ask native mexicans who were actually born-and-raised in mexico. the VAST majority would not consider cain to be mexican. mexicans have a 100% grasp of the spanish language, lived in the same type of environment and shared the same customs as native mexicans, and follow the cultural trends of the mainstream mexican people.

cain doesn't fit that mold. his connection with mexico is more on a surface-level. like i've said before, he is just like the americans with italian and irish blood in the northeast who claim to be italian and irish. the natives from those countries do not see those people as one of them.

No man. That was pretty good. Just admit it. He got you.

More on topic, why isn't Tito the first Mexican champ then?

Tito identified himself as Mexican American and I believe only one of his parents was Mexican and like a countless generation Mexican American at that.

Cains parents were both Mexican immigrants and was raised with the culture and traditions of a true Mexican home.

I dont know why people get so rustled over Cains affinity for his Mexican heritage. The UFC isnt fabricating anything, they can only work with as much as Cain gives them and that just happens to be ALOT.
