Cain Velasquez is Mexican/isn't Mexican Thread ***Threads Merged***

LOL @ Cain riling up the crowd when he starts hearing the "Mexico" chants. Seriously, though, does this guy have ANY pride in the USA?

You're right, he should've stopped and started screaming USA in their faces. That's probably what you would do if you were in the country of your forbears and getting cheered. Makes sense.

How does that show he lacks pride in the U.S.?

So anyone with dual citizenship for example is shitting on the other country they are from if they enjoy getting support from the other?

I seriously can't even begin to follow what some people's problems are. And he seemed to kind of smile and step it up when he heard the chicks going off in Spanish. A natural reaction for most guys when getting cheered by women.

Haha haha

That may be my favorite post to date on Sherdog. The visual was priceless.

Cuz they are racists and/or xenophobes.

Or, just maybe, it's because he's incorrect.

Maybe since he was born, raised, educated and employed here his whole life they feel like he should identify with the country that he has lived in his entire life instead of paying homage to a country he's barely even visited.

Maybe it's that.

you do realize plants are put there to start chants, right? you don't need thousands of people to start a chant, just 1 person. then, like someone else said, people just blindly follow

Yes, but before the Mexico chants the entire room erupted in cheer when Cain appeared and walked out to the workout area.

Those are not plants, those were Mexican fans excited to see a Mexican heritage world champion appear.

This shouldnt be so difficult to understand....

Cain is of American nationality and Mexican descent. /thread

Pay homage to a country that has been systematically discriminating against the Hispanic minority with the prison industrial complex and the war on drugs? Pay homage to a country that has propped up a corrupt neoliberal regime in Mexico and enforced free trade policies that have substantially contributed to the rise of poverty in Mexico? Maybe you should read some books because these are pretty much historical facts.

I've never heard of so many people butthurt when someone identifies with their heritage. White people do it all the time with their European ancestry and nobody blinks an eye. Get a clue.

and yes I am white, inb4 someone calls me a crybaby minority.

People still mad about Brown Pride eh? Sad.

well at least they're beyond the whole "cain valasquez gang sings" thing

And he got "Mexico" and "Si Se Puede" chants when he fought in Vegas and in Texas. Cain is a big deal to Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. Why is this some debate to some people?

Cain is American born and raised but is 100% ethnically Mexican.

He can identify with whoever he likes and if the narrow mindedness displayed here is any indication of middle America in 2015, I'm not surprised he would better relate to his blood.

You don't here any Kiwis bitching about NZ born and raised Mark Hunt calling himself the Super Samoan.

Did anyone explain yet why Cain's tattoo which is supposed to somehow project his love of his heritage/culture is in English and not in Spanish?

The thing that pisses a lot of people off about this American/Mexican American crap is the fact that the people that come to America from say Mexico is that there is no appreciation towards America that gave these people their opportunity in jobs, houses, clothes etc. If they like being "Mexican" or "Irish" so much, why aren't they living in their respective countries?!

I'll tell you why, because there are little to no opportunities there.

Show some respect!!!

because he doesn't speak Spanish. Makes no sense to put something on your chest you don't understand.

In one of the Embedded episodes, Cain distinctly claims to be Mexican. He did not at all mention being an American.

Why would he have to? It's pretty clear he's from America.
