Michael J looked better than 5 years ago, Jared C and actually Max looks better than when he was doing the Volk trilogy and so far looks like he might have a whole new career at LW. I thought Volk looked really good vs Lopez and also shattered the bs "youtube expert" idea that its impossible for a LW to become champ again if he is over 35.

Maybe Topuria knocked some sense into them. They underestimated him and or overestimated themselves. Humbling might have helped focus on next fight. GSP was humbled by Vera and came back a wiser fighter. Not that all fighters have the physical and mental ability to bounce back but some do. Good coaching and camps help as well. Styles also make fights and Topuria has a very effective style since excellent striker with good grappling counter.

I remember the PBP and everyone in there seemed high as well. It wasn't until they were presented the fight stats that they quieted down. Volk outstruck Lopes with over double the strikes in every single round except for rd2 where he just landed 8 more strikes. Yes, sig. strikes aren't everything but the discrepancy in this fight was crazy.

Holloway was coming off his most iconic career performance before Topuria fight and followed up with another marque fight here.

Volkanovski retained his title immediately after Topuria switched divisions.

His wins are aging really well.

Great thread. I would pay close attention to the Volk/Diego Lopes fight. Lopes is a young, hungry guy who seems to get better every fight. That was an impressive win for Volk. Topuria is the real deal. I think LW is the wrong division for him but the guy has dynamite in his hands.

What world are people living in where beating three top 5 contenders isn't impressive because they weren't all in their precise physical primes? This isn't fucking high school wrestling, the ages always vary in professional combat sports and age doesn't make an opponent irrelevant especially when they are still capable of competing with the best in their divisions.
