Movies BLADE RUNNER 2049 Thread v.2

This is going to sound contradictory but it goes by pretty quickly as long as you go into the film understanding it unfolds at a rather slow, deliberate pace.

The first time I went to see it I did feel like the movie was kind of slow. The second time I went into it knowing what to expect and I felt like it moved along at a good pace.

That is great to hear, but, not every "deep" movie needs to be at the 3 hour mark. There are plenty of complex films that do not need that same amount of screen time. Of course, since I have not seen it yet, I cannot really critique it based solely on that. It still looks like it is worth the time. Maybe...

I can't for the life of me think of what could be cut.

I was listening to a review of the film yesterday on a podcast and one of the reviewers mentioned that he would've been happy to get another hour.

I knew before I saw it that it was going to be long so I treated it in my mind as a kind of "vacation" or escape from regular life and that's the mindset that worked well for me. I got to see it in one of those nice comfy chairs that recline, also. Great experience.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I cannot wait. Huge fan of the first, and sci-fi is my favorite genre of literature and movies, but I am weary of all the 3 hour films that are so prevalent now. That is just me. Some enjoy movies that linger around.

It's legit my favorite movie of the year so far, by a wide margin. Frankly, I'm feeling a little obsessed by it.

But to answer your question, no, it's not addressed. All we know is that K has one of Ana's memories and that it's illegal to pass on a real memory to a replicant.

The film doesn't say when, why or exactly how K came to have this memory.

i guess we can leave it as ambiguous at the moment and wait if another sequel will addressed this

I really thought Ghost in the Shell was going to be big. Though to be fair, the movie ended up being pretty disappointing.

Alien: Covenant made $240 million though. Is that really a bomb? Or just a lower return than expected?

At least once you factor in home video rentals and sales, TV rights, merchandising, etc then I would be surprised if they see a loss on this one.

I think international box office is going to tell the tale and it's still too early to know exactly how that will shape up.

It did ok overseas

But if we are just looking at domestic total its the 2nd worst alien film(counting the AVP films and Prometheus) if you adjust for inflation..

So it might not be a bomb cause of overseas but it definitely underperformed in the states

Struggle to win? Recent winners have made less in total than Blade Runner 2049 has made in only a week.

I could careless about pretentious cucks collecting awards and fapping at them circle jerk style. I am more concerned that 2049 sales so we get another movie.

@ObsoleteSoul, to just chime in one more time regarding the run time, I am actually with you that MOST long movies these days probably don't need to be as long as they are. I am actually a big film of the 90 minute movie. A good 90 minute film gets in, punches hard, and then gets out before it wears out its welcome.

But I think that Blade Runner 2049 is an exception. It really NEEDS that run time to fully flesh out its story and build its world. To try to cut it down to something shorter would be a huge mistake.

I felt restless too at points and the chairs are terribly uncomfortable. I am curious how my next viewing will be. I would like a movie before Ford hits the old dusty trail.

I disagree. I think the visuals were great but the budget was retarded given the previous movies numbers. It did not sell well then and this is struggling too. The trailer was kind of shit. Yes, the visuals are great but nobody has a clue whats going on and the movie leaves us with more questions then answers.
