I'm a big fan of the original Blade Runner but this one didn't grab me at all tbh. Not in terms of story or aesthetic. The only things that really stood out were the soundtrack, which was really something, and Sylvia Hoeks as Luv. It didn't have the intimacy of the original and came off as very bland. It has occasional flashes of the old Blade Runner but it felt like they were just there for cheap pops, same as the whole Deckard/Rachel angle

What an excellent movie. This is going to be an instant classic. Loved it 10/10.

Give it a few days, read things, talk to people about it, and then go watch it again and see if your opinion changes.

I was a bit disappointed as well the first time I saw it. Perhaps not as much as you. But I took some time process it and talk about it and then I watched it again.

And I swear to you, this is the best film of the year.

Whats the second best in your opinion?

This year hasn't been great

My two contenders for the #2 spot will probably be unexpected picks.

The first is Megan Leavey. I really found it to be a surprisingly simple yet well-made and emotional film about a girl and her dog.

The second is Netflix's What Happened to Monday. It got a lukewarm response from a lot of critics and viewers alike and I just don't understand that at all. I thought it was a very good movie.

It's weird cause Hoeks (who was great as you said) was so familiar to me that I was sure I'd look her up and it would immediately click and I'd feel like an idiot for not having remembered. Yet I find I actually am not familiar with her at all.

I really dug WHtM.

The RT score is 58%. Does that make ANY fucking sense to you? Because it doesn't make any to me.

I think it is very imaginative and well-directed. The RT score, and even the response from many people here on SD, legitimately shocked me.

I was like, "What the fuck do you people want?"

That makes no sense to me at all. it could have been better, I forget exactly how, but it was really good, imo.

Thats cuz she looks like the porn star Dana DeArmond.

When she
crushed Gos' girl just to be a dick, I was just itching for when Joe would get his revenge.

Just saw that WHTM is a science fiction movie

coincidence that it didnt do well?

I dunno man, maybe you're right and the people are just revolting against sci-fi for some reason.

No, people just want intelligent science fiction these days like Transformers and Pacific Rim.

If Avatar fails we will know something is up

I was thinking about this the other day.

I expect Avatar 2 to be a financial success. People will want to see it just to know if it's a disaster or not.

But Avatar 3? That's the real test.
