As far at the tourney, this is your log so I won't make a huge post about it but it went well. No vids, as my teammates were competing at the same time and my girlfriend didn't go to this one. I got first in the blue belt gi division, as did one of my teammates.
My first match was no gi and I got smoked. I got the takedown, but had my back almost instantly taken, and from there was defending constant submission attempts...rear naked choke, inverted triangle, kimura, armbar, triangle, another armbar and was eventually triangled. He flowed back and forth from submission to submission, I was really in awe.
I hurt my neck in my no-gi match, so I pulled guard in my first match, went to one-legged x-guard, x-guard, then stood up with his leg on my shoulder and did a mean tree top that and planted his head on the mat. Got to half guard in the ensuing scramble and did a darce-like gi choke with his lapel.
Second match my opponent pulled guard, I stood to pass and worked knee slides and some half guard passes, finally was able to pass from half guard but could stabilize position, as he rolled to turtle. I've been doing nothing but attacking the back in practice so this was perfect. I locked my harness grip and captured his arm in the crucifix as he tried to roll, tried to get a crucifix armbar, and he tried to defend that so I switched to a bow and arrow choke to finish.
Third match I got an outside single, and took him down. Stood to pass and was kind of at a stalemate for a while. I came close to passing a few times, but he was very squirrely and kept reguarding and I could never hold position on the pass. He stood up and tried to take me down, I sprawled and he pulled half guard, and I resorted to my old favorite, the Ezekiel.
