Crocop has like triple the fights and is 5yrs older. GG was 36 and CC was 41 in the rematch. If CC didn't lose the 1st time due to overlooking him how would he win in a rematch when by every metric GG has the advantage?Gonzaga had 16 fights between the Cro Cop fights, Mirko had 15. And I'm pretty sure they both got older by pretty much the same amount of years.
Although I think Rogerio realy was more just a blind punch which happened to land wrist to chin perfectly and Arona I think took him seriously, Soko just gave the performance of his career there with that insane hoping takedown defence, if Arona got him down it was probably over going from what we saw latter.Soak a jew vs Arona and Lil Nog
I think the “ overlooked” excuses is one of the dumbest things in MMA.
I’d say Mir vs Brock 1 would be a better example than Mir vs Brock 2
That's a great one!The Werdum vs JDS fight always stuck out to me as a prime example of overlooking your opponent. Werdum is on the cusp of a title shot and the JDS fight was supposed to be a keep busy fight while JDS was an unknown at that time and didn't even have a Wikipedia page.
This was the time when the "new breed" of super heavyweight were all the rage, like Brock and Carwin. To prepare for a potential fight against Brock, Werdum decided to bulk up going into the JDS fight. He was also a -600 favorite I believe. JDS then proceeded to knock his fat ass out and kicked off an incredible run to the title

Houston also landed a massive illegal knee that no one ever seems to bring up. Should have been a no contest.Keith Jardine x Houston Alexander
Jardine was coming from a victory over Forrest Griffin, so he thought debuting Houston Alexander was a step down in competition.
Also, in the recent times, Mayra Bueno Silva x Raquel Pennington
MBS was overhyped since she was coming off a submission (later nc) win over the corpse of Holly Holm.
She clearly overlooked journeyman Pennington and lost the once in life opportunity of being a (paper) champion.
Swear Sherdog tries to completely memory hole that CC/Gonzaga 2 went exactly the same as the first fight with Gonzaga taking CC down and badly beating the shit out of him on the ground for the majority of the fight. Gonzaga was up 20-17 and had nearly finished CC multiple times. CC was losing the 3rd too and then won the rematch entirely in the very last 10 seconds of the fight when CC landed an elbow standing that hurt Gonzaga and finished him seconds later.I'm saying that Cro Cop lost to Gonzaga by Gonzaga beating him by being better than him (in that particular fight).
Feel free to make further excuses.

It wasn't at all some brand new CC like Sherdog tries to pretend. Gonzaga was again beating the shit out of him. CC is not a better fighter than Gonzaga. Better career yes, but their fights made clear that Gonzaga is a bad matchup for him. He dominated him for 99% of their 2 fights.
The rematch if anything was the fluke.
Crocop could not fight with drug tests its a simple fact... amazing career before and after drug testing like 3 and 7 with testsdo people still try to justify that cro crop gonzaga thing as overlooking?
i just think he got taken down, hit with elbows that stunned him a bit, and then got knocked out
That last line is a dead giveaway that what you're saying is nonsense. The elbow was nothing like a wild punch, a random never seen blow or accidental.... and again crocop was 41 and GG was 36. Prime of life vs old That's huge in the fight game.
Most importantly CC had 76 pro fights at that point compared to 25 for GG.
The revisionists on sherdog love to pretend age and fight mileage means nothing LOL
Shogun lost fair and squareExamples of fights were the better fighters lost cuz he overlooked and underestimated his opponent.
Cro cop v Gonzaga (literally won the rematch while more shop worn/old)
Reem v Big Foot
Crocop v Randleman
Werdum v Stipe
Rockhold v Bisping 2
Silva v Weidman
Shogun v Forrest
Hendo v Misaki 2
Hendo v Sheilds
Mir v Brock 2
GSP v Serra
Rampage v Forrest
All of them were fair and squareShogun lost fair and square
Gonzaga has won 99% of their 2 fights apart 1 CC elbow that turned around the rematch that he was just as badly losing as the first fight. That last line is a dead giveaway that what you're saying is nonsense. Well over the hill? Lmao it was literally Shogun's first fight post Jones. All of them were fair and square
We also saw shogun utterly destroy Forrest despite being well over the hill with the biggest difference being he wasn't fighting with an active CL tear that happened weeks prior preventing proper training and cardio
I don't know that is the best representation of what the thread is asking about though. Amanda was not physically well in that fight and had medical issues leading up to it. She didn't actually tap out to Pena's offense; she quit because her body gave out. In other words, it was more the timing of the fight than the fact that Amanda overlooked her. Unless of course we were to say Amanda only took the fight while diminished because Pena was a perceived easy opponent, but I don't think we know that to be true.Pena/Nunes does seem like one of the best examples of this, Nunes looked like she basically wanted to blow Pena away in the first fight, probably because she was expected to and tried to walk though too much offence.
