Best Lightweight ever Benson or BJ Penn?

Bj Penn for sure. He destroyed his opponents where as Benson had a lot of wars. Only real destruction Benson had was against Nate, but wow did he ever murk Nate.
hes also one of the few fighters that ive heard the diaz brothers give respect to prior to a fight

There is only one correct answer...THE ANSWER! Frankie Edgar is the LW Goat and got robbed.

no offense but you didn't watch mma when BJ was in his prime did you?
I did, he is overrated. Nowhere near GOAT. Just had the McGregor treatment. Put in the spotlight a lot, made a few good wins look like all-time GOAT.

Benson > BJ

When Benson went up to fight a much bigger man, he won, he didn't repeatedly get smashed into retirement. Yet anyway.

He beat a not even close to top 10 guy in Thatch and an undersized, but very good Masvidal. He then fought a true 170 in Bellator and was dominated.

BJ fought the best WW ever twice, the previous best WW ever three times, and Rory and Diaz, two guys at the very top of the division. Oh, and he drew with top 3 at the time Jon Fitch in a fight he should have been given the decision.

Bj is not even top 3 lw goat. The division was pretty mediocre in his day. Could even make a case that he isn't top 5.

Very over rated

Sure

To the Death...to the death, BJ.
Well if all you're gonna do is rehash the past...

Anyways, my answer is RDA. He obliterated Cerrone and Pettis like nobody else. If he avenges Khabib then for sure GOAT. He'll likely be GOAT if he beats Eddie. Frankie/BJ is a toss up, Frankie has the record but I thought he lost the 1st fight decisively but won more decisively in the 2nd/3rd lol. I also think he's 1-1 vs Bendo. That's why he gets unfairly(?) criticized due to his "point style" and troubled moments, but he's not like Split Bendo. I'm biased, but BJ gets love for his JBG tributes and knowing he competed with the (old) 170 vanguard instead of staying at 155. I'm fine with either though.

Except he was in the spotlight because he was a great fighter, two division champ, had exciting fights, etc. Mcgregor is a creation of marketing and a division as deep as a kiddy pool. No comparison between the two.

Sure quitting on stool is such a sign of a great fighter after talking that way.

at lightweight, it's not even comparable, Benson is an alltime great in that division, and while BJ Penn, whom i don't rank in the top 5 at LW, is more significant historically than any of my top 5, he just wasn't putting up the quality of wins that other guys were. Part of it was his era, part of it was that he was in the UFC when literally everywhere else in the world was where the best lightweights were when he was champion. Sucks, but thems the breaks.
