Best Lightweight ever Benson or BJ Penn?

BJ and following is Gomi!

No LW now could beat prime BJ or Gomi. Frankie would be a hell of a fight for both.

How do you know BJ wasn't on roids? I think we can say definitively at SOME POINT of his career he was 100% natural, but we can never know if he was natural his entire career.

And BJ fighting in 3-5 different weight classes shouldn't be an excuse for BJ, it should be a testament to how badly his career was managed and how this guy lacked any sort of intangibles. He was all technique and talent. He was a front-runner that lacked toughness, he had poor career management, was undisciplined, etc. The one time he had a great thing going with the Marinovich brothers he dumped them.

with all that said, I think Frankie is a very overrated fighter. BJ was pretty much at the end of his rope by the time they got around to fighting.

BJ is very similar to Johnny football in the NFL right now. Great talent but comes from wealth so has no discipline. The result WAS NOT bad career management but rather a person who does what ever they want with no regard to the outcome.

Its very unlikely BJ roided.....much like Diaz bros. Ganja yes, Roids probably not.

That's the stupidest two sentences I've read in this thread.

Bj Penn for sure. He destroyed his opponents where as Benson had a lot of wars. Only real destruction Benson had was against Nate, but wow did he ever murk Nate.

not destruction if you dont finish the fight

LOL at tbe guy on the right being one of the "two best" when he was beaten - twice - by Henderson.

And, ironically, Benson had a more clear-cut victory over Frankie to take the title than Frankie had over BJ when Frankie "won" the belt.

And I look forward to watching Fredgar stomp around disgusted after he loses his second decision to Jose Aldo at 145. :)

100 percent, there was no question Benson beat Edgar the first time, no need for the rematch, although I had Edgar in the second. I have to see it again as I was pretty hammered that night.

Edit: I meant Lightweight LOL!!!

Been following the sport for 7 years. This is a toughy.

that might explain how you completely disregarded Gomi Takanori

Gomi went on a 10-win run 2003-2005 with wins over former LW Shooto champ Kawajiri, former UFC LW champ Pulver, a revitalized LW 4-0 Sakurai, undefeated 6-0 Ralph Gracie and 4-0 against Chute Box's (a premier team at the time) LW stable. After some losses, he still beat the likes of Ishida (14-2 at the time on a 8-win streak) and Duane Ludwig.

Before his 10-win run, he himself was a Shooto LW champ with wins over good opponents, at the time, Mishima and Sato.

Gomi > Benson Henderson

RDA has had the best LW run to date, he's destroyed the best of the best. It's either him or Khabib, not Penn or Frankie.
