Best fighter to never win a title

Gegard mousasi had the ability to win a title

lol the guy has been Bellator, Strikeforce and Dream World Champion.

The thread is best guy to never win a title. UFC title isn't the end all be all of a HOF career...guys like Henderson and Fedor are all time greats that won legitimate world titles outside the UFC.

I would say Benevidez is one of the best answers...he could have been a World Champion in WEC or UFC if he hadn't run into prime Dominick Cruz and prime Mighty Mouse twice a piece.

it's Joseph Benavidez right? From 2010 to 2020 he was a top contender, starting at bantamweight and then transitioning to flyweight, with the vast majority of the time ranked at number two behind the champion. Up until his split decision loss to Sergio Pettis he had only lost to Cruz and Mighty Mouse. I can't think of anyone else with that kind of longevity at the top who never became champion.
Alexander Gustafsson
wins over......
Glover
Jan (current champ)
Shogun
and others.....
Losses to......
Cormier (razor close split decision)
Jones 1 (very close fight against prime Jones)
Rumble (got headbutted then mauled)
Prime Gustafsson was championship caliber fighter.

If we’re talking strictly UFC titles, then Mirko.

However, I always feel like his OWGP championship covers that, if we’re just talking about ‘a title’, PRIDE titles should just kinda count the same.
It doesnt to me,but its not an argument I want to really get into. Its an accomplishment, but seperate from a title that you have to defend, and beat the champion to get.

Yea on top of that UFC didnt do much to help with medicals.
No they didn't and TJ never fought again which tells ya how serious his injury was/is. I'm not totally sure if that was the reason as to why TJ never returned?

Yea it was the concussions. He tried to come back a couple of times and he just couldnt train right. Any sparring at that point would put him in bed for days with migraines and vertigo. Was a great fighter tough as anyone out there. UFC did the same with Spencer Fisher too concussions started adding up had to pull out of a few fights asked the UFC for help think they scheduled one appointment for him and that was it.

He also said he was in debt, and continuing to fight was just going to put him more in debt.

I remember reading that somewhere. I always assumed it was the concussion though. He could have very well won the title and got himself some champ money.

As far as UFC title goes:

HW: Overeem
LHW: Rumble Johnson
MW: Yoel Romero
WW: Carlos Condit (only if you exclude Interim, otherwise Jon Fitch)
LW: Tony Ferguson (only if you exclude Interim, otherwise Michael Chandler)
FW: Chad Mendes

dont care about the midget divisions

Kenflo. One of the best guys at LW when the division is just coming up. Won 12 of 13 fights at LW all via finishes. Only took 1 fight at FW to get a title shot at Aldo but came up short. Was always so close but never won the big one.

He was also fighting vastly inferior LW's in the UFC than what was happening outside of it lmao

Ian McCall in my opinon if we're just talking UFC. He was the best in the world in his division for years and I feel he beat Mighty Mouse in the first fight.

Yoel Romero !
