Best female champion ever?

Yes. Cyborg has only fought, what, six women who have not fought lighter than 145? Three of them had zero wins when she "fought" them. She has fought six or seven women who have fought at 125 and Cyborg herself posted a picture of her on the scale at a fairly lean 175. She came in heavy four times, including a catch weight fight that should have been scrapped. So she basically spent her entire career cheating to beat up smaller fighters. There is no pride in this, no honor and it is not anything to be respected.

Yep.

People just focus on the KOs though and the dominant performances while ignoring the actual details that matter.

Depends your definition of best.

Nunes wins on all metrics except drawing power.
Joanna is the most watchable. A true warrior.
Ronda is the most popular.

But I have a feeling 10-15 years from now this conversation won't be relevant. First off it is womens mma so it is still relatively infantile compared to their male counterpart, and 2ndly UFC likes to sort of erase history and pretend the latest and greatest is the best ever.

Wym what?

She got 5 title defenses in a row at BW, then lost the title, then got it back, added 1 more title defense and retired

Let’s have an honest conversation about who’s the best, oh but first let me arbitrarily remove a bunch of title fight wins from the fighter that I’m not voting for.

But was it more of a product of the times than her being the phenomenon they UFC promoted her as. The TUF season she coached was a great example of the timing of wmma's evolution. The favourites ended up being washed up and the actual competitors like Juliana Pena emerged.
Not to mention, It would benefit the launch of the UFC's new wmma division to have their new superstar having 20 second wins against woman that weren't even training full time right?

For sure, but, that isn't her fault that she was a legit judo/BJJ black belt and ahead of her time. And the UFC hype machine can be irritating, but, it was a marketing opportunity and they seized it, can't really blame them for that even if it is nauseating at times haha. If anything I think being a pioneer deserves a little extra credit. Think about it. When she came about there was no reason to pursue combat arts. She wasn't in it to get rich with Judo/BJJ, she was representing her country and doing it because she loved the arts. The lucrative side came after she put in all the time, energy and effort without that prize at the end of the tunnel. While other girls were doing whatever the fuck, she was putting in the blood sweat and tears it took to wipe the fucking floor with other women her size. That sounds like a wild amount of dedication to me.

Anyway, as a dad of a five year old who started her in MT/BJJ at age 4, I look at someone like Ronda as a good role model for that aspect of life. She had the entire world of WMMA on her back for a long time as the only recognizable face that wasn't Cyborg or Gina and her merit was much more deserved than either of them. Not to mention she had some rough cards dealt to her in life, fuck. She handled her business until WMMA advanced at hyperspeed and the lack of striking caught up to her.

Anyway, cheers. I think we can both agree the hype machine sucks the fun out of cheering for someone.

my best guess would be that she had some hormonal imbalances that impacted her weight cuts.

damn, forgot about pre extra curvy gina. a bit before my time, but wood nonetheless (the peak version, the current one is heavier than me).

Is Nicco Montano better than Germaine Da Randamie? They have the same number of defenses, so that's about equal, but you said 145 isn't a division, so that gives Nicco a plus. Also, she's 1-0 in title fights, as opposed to 1-1 for GDR. Add those together and she's a much better champion.

Problems here is it's more than just numbers, it matters who you beat. And also, why should the defense matter more than the actual winning the belt? You're purposefully deselecting that from the record. Nicco beat Roxy for her belt, GDR beat Holly. You can throw out the FW division, sure, but you don't chuck the baby with the bath water. Your inclination to both ignore the title win AND featherweight makes the Cyborg fight null and void, when it's one of the more important title wins across women's MMA. Even if the FW challengers are awful, beating Tate, Rousey, Shevchenko, Rocky, Holm, Cyborg, GDR, Spencer, Anderson, and Peña is better than beating Joanna, Eye, Carmouche, Chookagian, Maia, Andrade, Murphy, and Santos, and it's not even a question.

Man that's your opinion and it's ok, that's what this thread is about

But don't be mad at me for just putting the numbers out there, look I put Amanda's BW numbers only, I didn't include her FW numbers since that division is a joke and we all know that

GDR vs Holm? They are both BWs
Cyborg? Look Cyborg only fought BWs in the UFC and a bunch of soccer moms in other organizations
Nunes? She beat Cyborg and then defended her belt against 2 soccer moms

If you think that's so important to include, then do it and express yoir opinion, I dont mind

Amanda Nunes because she beat everyone and retired as the champion in two divisions. She beat people others could not have such as, Cyborg. She is called the GOAT for a reason.

Agree with this, but I also think Rose's 2x wins over JJ and Zhang were epic.

It's too bad she got horrible advice from her corner in the Esparza rematch. Gave her way too much respect.

Shev hands down. She gave it to Nunes who is much bigger. Its a no brainer really.

...
I'm not even going to count the FW division since that one has always been a joke (can't even make a top 5 out of it).
...
in other words: I hate Amanda and all the other Brazilians.

i give it to cyborg. she was beating top competition for longer, which isn’t saying that much in wmma, but it is a factor to consider when deciding who is goat. i don’t think you can put too much stock in their one fight, especially since nunes similarly had her “invincibility” streak shattered. in fact it’s probably worse that she lost to someone like pena. based on what ive seen, i think cyborg woulda won the rematch.

either way, #1 and #2 is clearly between nunes and cyborg. no one else is close.

The point is, you didn't put the numbers out there. You put your numbers out there
