Aldo for sure.

You're argument doesn't make sense since all great champions lose at some point. The only non-biased metric we can go on is title-defences, since (usually) these matches aren't a farce. (Jones / Sonnen excepted)

So I guess you'd go

HW - Fedor / Stipe
LHW - Obv Jones
MW - Silva
WW - St Pierre
LW- Penn / Edgar
FW-Aldo
BW-Cruz/Dillashaw?
SW-MightyCoward

Well if you're not one you have bad logic. I'm a McGregor fan but by your logic you should think Max is the best since he beat Aldo clearly two times. You could argue that Conor got lucky (not saying he did) but Max displayed he's a lot better twice.

Max never even beat Aldo once. He did beat the ghost of Aldo twice, though, which was a cool achievement.

McGregor took away Aldo's prime, he was never the same after the fight.

Aldo looked great in his next fight after fighting McGregor. Against Edgar. I thought it was one of Aldo's best career performances.

Aldo may have lost a little here or there, but he remains quite formidable.

It is unquestionably Conor. It would be Max but Conor beat him head on, and rather convincingly. This is assuming that by 'best' you mean if there was a time machine and we could have each prime one fight, who would win (or atleast be favored) ? It is the difference between Khabib's undefeated record and Tony's record that was fantastic but blemished a few time - Conor is undefeated at feddahweight. Period.

Okay, for the sake of the argument, let's say I'm trolling.

I'm trolling you by claiming that McGregor is the best featherweight fighter of all time. My argument is pretty stupid, I mean, the only thing McGregor did was to destroy Jose Aldo in seconds and he was, like, regarded as the best featherweight of all time?

Now, since I'm merely a troll, I must have posted something that was annoying, but definetely not true. Will you please elaborate on that? Or perhaps the troll isn't me?

This isn't the highlander. You don't beat someone and then absorb all their accomplishments. Werdum didn't become the best HW ever when he defeated Fedor, Weidman didn't become the best MW ever when he beat Anderson, if GSP ever lost at WW his opponent wouldn't become the best WW ever.

Best at the time, yes. But to say the best ever you're looking at all past fighters and all their accomplishments over their lifetime, not just a single performance.

Aldo's the new Fedor and Andy: win='in prime' while loss='out of prime, definitely not beat by a plain and simple better fighter'.

aldo for now. max is creeping up

Garbage logic. It is Aldo without question. And until someone goes basically a decade undefeated and cleans out a division there shouldn't be another thread about this.

TBE is the best today. Fighters today are better than fighters yesterday, the game is evolving. Royce was the best fighter of his time but he would get smeshed by Mike Perry.
The GOAT argument goes a different direction - there you look at accomplishments taking into account the time frame. In that regard Aldo is the GOAT but if Max defends a couple of times, an argument could be made for his case.

Lol Sherdog, where everything but “head to head record” matters, in an individual sport.

It’s obviously Conor, Max, then Aldo.

All the effort to rationalize why your favorite guy is the best guy, when they all fought each other. Give it a rest.

Remember when JDS destroyed Cain and was locked in as the GOAT?
That's why title defenses and rematches matter.

Aldo for sure. Max could be nipping at his heels though.

The actual best fighter to have ever fought at featherweight is Conor.

But Aldo deserves the FW GOAT Nod on his longevity.

If Max can get a couple more good wins like Ortega, Mendes, Edgar, Zabit he'll take Aldo's crown.

Aldo
Faber
Max

Max has all the potential in the world to claim that top spot
