Multiplat BALDUR'S GATE III

Bladur's Gate 3 has once again broken its record for concurrent players. Yesterday it hit a peak concurrent players of 875,343. Its previous peak was 814,000 so this is a significant jump of over 60,000.

Video for anyone interested.

The numbers aren't surprising anymore it's that it's still this high almost 2 weeks later.

For customization, they really should have used sliders and limited our face time in cutscenes. 90% of the time my guy either looks constipated, retarded or incredibly sarcastic. It was the same issue with Dragon Age Origins. I like the mute protag, but you can't give them so much screen time. Their muted responses with those bizarrely animated expressions really stand out against the amazing animations and voice work of all the characters throughout the game.

If you have a custom character like most players do then yea, you aren't going to get the precise, handcrafted expressions and reactions of the "Origin Characters." It would take an incredible amount of extra work with the engine they used because everyone's character looks slightly different. The fact they were able to pull this game off with only 400 people is remarkable when you consider a company like Blizzard had in the thousands working on Diablo 4.

For sure, most games drop off significantly after the first week. Baldur's Gate continuing to actually rise is pretty crazy. Its rare. BG's 875k for the genre is unheard of. To put it in perspective, Elden Ring's peak concurrent was 953k.

And it hasn't even released on consoles which is guaranteed going to sell like wildfire.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect player characters to compare with the handcrafted masterpieces they made for us, which is why I'd rather they limit our face time, especially if there's no voice.

Compare Mass Effect and Dragon Age Origins. Having a voice for ME brought our player character to life. Without a voice, they need to take the Skyrim/Fallout (pre 4) route and limit our face, let's us be better immersed, IMO.

It's really the only thing I have an actual issue with it, still a big 10 out 10 for me overall.

As a sort of side note, I like how Baldur's Gate uses a narrator at times, it works well.

Depends on your rig. It can get pretty demanding. Not sure how scaleable it it is when you lessen the load with lower settings.

But PC is gonna have insane mods.
Im tempted to use the limitless party mod so that I can make room for more than 4 characters. Of course I would want to amp up the difficulty because it would be a breeze to kill mobs. I just don't know if I was to use the mod that it would break the game in anyway because the game engine probably thinks that there are 4 characters being used for dialog and narration

And, from what I've heard of the narrator from the clips I've seen, she's a huge improvement over the Divinity Original Sin 2 narrator.

At some points, its pure cringe... like in the sex scenes.

Raphael's character model and voice acting reminds me so much of a young Ian Mcshane that I had to look it up to see if he was doing the voice acting
He does a great job of making him an interesting villain. His home in Act 3 is a fun dungeon. So many great items to steal.

Im on act 3 myself but havent gotten as far as you. One of the best things about BG3 is speaking to the dead and animals as well as stealing from people and pushing people off the cliffs. I hope they add more of the circus content because that was a blast turnied into a cheese by the Djinn and using it to flatulate in front of the civilians without consequences

That jigsaw puzzle quest is something lol

Finished clearing out the goblin camp last night. Man this is so goddamn fun so far. Missed all sorts of stuff I'm sure, so going to see what happens in town and explore around more. No crashes or performance issues at all running on Ultra. Runs like a dream. My only complaint is I wish I could have 6 people in my party, 4 seems really limiting. Other than that it's great.

Man this thing is just loaded with flavor and atmosphere. These guys really get it. I already knew they were a great studio, but this is really something else. Even the way they hand out rewards and side quests is neat.

Hey guys! I’ve put a couple hours in, and a full party: Shadowheart, the vampire elf, and Gale. Just rescued Lae’zel and need to drop someone apparently, so we can move forward with removing the worms from our heads. My character is also a fighter. Who should I drop for LZ? Or does is not matter? Can I bring them back after being cured? Or is none of this important?

Well it helps that Larian has actually employed people that play games including the CEO Sven, who loves gaming and D&D. You might be utterly shocked to find out how many "game designers" don't even play games or give a fuck.

I also play a fighter, went sub-class Eldritch, and love it. I primarily use Shadowheart, Astarion, and Gale. Lae'zel pretty much has had to piss off at camp. In order to progress from Act 1 to Act 2 you will have to decide to go through the mountains or underground through the Underdark. I opted underground. I would only worry about Lae'zel if you opt to go through the mountains. Also, these quests advance for your party characters even if they are in camp. The Underdark route is such an incredible adventure, I have no regrets not traveling with Lae'zel as she is just a mouthy bitch anyhow.

Thanks for the reply. So it really doesn't matter if I put her in my party or not, I can still advance the questline.

Well, yes, for main stuff those quests will advance. For full experience of the story I plan to take mountainpass on 2nd playthrough, which I think is where the Creche is since I haven't found it anywhere else. I will tell you that the underground passage is deep, and detailed, and badass.

If you really want to retain all your magic weapons early in the game, you should drop Gale without me giving out any early spoilers. For Act 2, you should keep Shadowheart because shes very important to the story. Most of Gale's stuff doesnt really come into play until Act 3. Same with Astronrian except when you are about to explore tthe masoleum in Act 2 otherwise you miss out on his quest

One of the pet peeves is the constant swapping of characters because you have a hunch that some of the quests might also be story related so save often
