(INDIANAPOLIS) — State police say drivers clamored to pick up cash on an interstate in Indianapolis after the back doors of a Brinks armored truck swung open and hundreds of thousands of dollars flew out.

State police spokesman Sgt. John Perrine says investigators don’t know exactly how much cash was in the truck when its lost its load about 9 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 70 on the city’s southwest side. Perrine says it was definitely hundreds of thousands.

Officers blocked traffic as they helped collect money from along the highway. Perrine says an undetermined amount remains unaccounted for as some drivers stopped to scoop up cash.

Perrine says anyone who picked up the money could be charged with theft and he urged them to contact state police to return it.

I would have walked around until I found the big bills. If you found where the hundreds started flying out, you could easily pick up 5-10k in a few minutes and bug out before the cops got there.

Sounds like a fun way to start your day.

Meh, some things are better said through a video.

The people that stole that money are scum. They are bank robbers...

Edit, if the money fell out loose over 20 miles then you are just picking up trash money.

Not worth going to jail to grab a few grand.

Tough call.

Would obviously be tempted to grab a bit and GTFO, but also seems like a half decent chance you're getting caught. Freeway cams, other drivers dropping a dime on the plates they saw scooping up cash, etc.

I'm entertained by the people, who if they saw money on the ground, wouldn't pick it up and take it.

I'm pretty sure if the cops come asking for it, the worst you would have to do was return it, and say, I thought someone didn't want it anymore, and that is why it was laying on the side of the road.

Of course personally I wouldn't return all of it. How would they know?

if this cash has dye packs these people would be really fucked that stuff stays on you for years.

Someone is getting fired.

oh wow that's so sad

"Randal, an officer of 23 years stated "I don't know what happened, I always secure the door before getting into the truck". He was then fired and will not be able to collect on his pension"
