I have a hard time believing that a back injury just happened to flare up right before the day of the fight. I think he cut too much weight, felt like he couldn't perform to the best of his capabilities and is now claiming this 'back' excuse to save face.

It makes sense. What could he have done to get a back injury a day before the fight? I imagine he was in the sauna and perhaps a stationary bike to get the last few pounds off. Doesn't make sense and if it was indeed a back injury then he should've disclosed this weeks ago.

the "weird situation" is called weak divisions across the board in the UFC. all weight classes are now like the HW division, extremely top heavy and aging rapidly.
